Journalist Left To Fend For Herself In Somalia

A Canadian journalist who went to Somalia to report on the conflicts erupting was captured last year by Somali extremists. Our government, dear Mr. Harper, has ignored this completly and rather focuses on the tarnishing oil sands. He has sentenced a fellow human being, and a local one that i have met several times before, to death overseas. Is this not wrong? Does this not go against all our laws? Will someone, anyone, go and save her? If Harper does not help her do you agree with this... leader or do you believe he is assisting in a murder? Please tell me what you would do for this beuatiful and frightend young journalist.

I think I heard about this, but cannot remember the exact details. I also recently heard about a woman who is stuck over in the Middle East...
She is a Canadian citizen, born and raised here, and her son lives here. She was recently visiting relatives overseas, and when she attempted to come home - nearly 2 months ago - Canadian officials refused to let her board the plane - acusing her of identity theft, simply because her glasses were different on her passport photo. She has been in contact with her son nearly everyday, and cannot get home to see him - she feels that for the first time, her country has truly let her down.
Here's the catch. Although officials claim that she is using somebody elses ID, no efforts have been made to uncover her "real" identity nor the identity of this other woman, who she is accused of pretending to be.
I do not remember her name, but I recall that she was in the Middle east, and that I read the article in the Star in late July - this jsut reminded me somewhat of it.
It's really too bad that a few bad apples have caused immigration and customs to become so strict that even our own citizens cannot get into our country - yet we seem to be bringing in the foreign by the truckload. Where is the logic in our systems?
