Child abduction is a growing cause for concern in Canada. over 60, 000 children go missing each year in this country, many never to be seen alive again.
On April 8th 2009, the small town I live in was impacted greatly by this horror. A young girl named Victoria Stafford was taken on her way home that afternoon - though she lived only 2 blocks from her school. The search efforts made by the community for the 2 months she was missing were massive - but unfortunately, the support of the whole town, and the aid of our entire police force, the OPP, as well as police from other cities, were simply not enough. On July 21st, human remains found in a remote forested area were confirmed to have been Victorias body - shattering any hope her family still had of her coming home safely.
Many people are now petitionning for more effective and prompt Amber Alerts, and tougher laws for those who do these things to children! The accused woman should not get a plea bargain for "helping" the police with the search.
