Today, many conflicts around the world are seriously costing innocent losse of lives and yet, the papetrators are afraid of facing justice for their actions.
Therefore, it is necessary that we discuss this matter whether there should be peace without justice?

Offcourse for peace to exist there must be justice. One difficulty about the idea of justice is that it not one fold. There is legal justice, social justice and Moral justice. What the courts will alwys give you is legal justice and most times this does not solve the problem. Solving societal problems goes beyond the judiciary which is known as "the temple of Justice".
For instance where there is a riot and lives and properties are destroyed. the perpetrators of this act if arrested will be charged for crime, and it is the state that ill prosecute because it is her laws that has been violated. This certainly is justice. How does this help the people that have lost their dear ones who are perhaps their bread winners? How does this kind of justice help those who have lost their properties and now leave in penury?
As far as the victims of the riot are concerned there is no justice even where the perpetrators are in jail.
This is a major problem of peace in our world. The big challeng is how do we ensure all aspects of justice are met. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Simon James

Can there be peace without justice?

Peace without justice is simply not possible. Justice establishes peace. History is evidence to that.
The question of punishing the rioters in a just manner is very valid. When the State is able to prosecute the rioters for destroying its property, it should be able to prosecute them for killing its innocent citizens. The punishment is simply not jailing them. The punishment should include making them serve atleast one bereaved family for not less than 3 years or give them blood money as it is called In Quran. In this manner, justice would be done to the bereaved families while the perpetuators are punished for their crimes.
For peace to prevail, justice is to be ensured. For justice to prevail, wise, able and strong leadership is required. To expect peace without justice is like expecting mercy without love.

This topic is very relevant especially for many African countries, I am from kenya and we had the worst post election violence this country has ever experienced 2 years ago, violence that had been incited by top leadership in the country. The debate in the country right now is whether to forgive or whether to let justice prevail? What is peace? peace is tranquillity; mental calm and a state of friendliness and not strife. Justice for me is very important because it fights Impunity and brings closure to ill feelings that victims have on those who wronged them. A country that does not have Justice will always find it self in conflict.

I agree with the previous post. Morgan Tsvangirai was willing to let Mugabe leave the country a free man, with no charges (Mugabe recently bought a place in Hong Kong) if he was allowed to become president. I believe there CAN be peace without justice, but there SHOULD be justice. If criminals are allowed to get away with the crime they'll continue.

I think those are two concepts closely related. If there's no justice, it must generate desagreement which can get out of control if there is not solved, producing new conflicts = no peace.
Peace based on injustice means represion, totalitarism, great control by the government... obviously it will result in a huge problem that earlier or later will explote.
History gives us lots of examples of this, why are we still looking for this kind of weak ad false peace?

peace is simply a reflection of wat you have learned and taught in life.... understanding, knowledge and wisdom, human dignity and affectionate, respect for other living creature and ethical moral values. if every individual is at peace wid oneself, at one's own house, community and state. the conflict will never arise.
comeon is it fair to seek for justice when india was continously hit by terrorist attacks where as on the other hand it also promotes some big terrorist gangs operating in its own country, ope peole have heard about LTT. secondly, is it justified to make police fight with pistols against the machine guns and grenades. thirdly, if there is anybody who truely deserve justice, it is the victims of terrorist attacks, war, crime, earthquake, tsumani, drought, accidents, etc. but unfortunately indian government belives in Criminal Justice system.
