We could feed everybody on this earth if we really wanted to - So why don't we!?

Is it not true that our earth has the resources to sustain the 6 Billion people living on it? I think it is. We in developed countries tend to be very wasteful, as we have more than we need; all the while it is no secret that people are dying of thirst and starvation in various other places around the world. Why can't we distribute our resources more evenly, to sustain ALL of our people? Will we ever be able to? What do you think it will take to get there?

It is true that our planet can sustain 6 billion people with more left. It is also true that the qwestern countries we live in are extremely wasteful with food and water, we have way too much. We throw all this excess in the garbage while there are millions of people around the world that would gladly eat our excess. So why don't we give it to them? Simply because of economics. It is too costly tto ship food half way around the world and keep it good till it gets there. As well it produces no profit, and that is really what our ecoonomy is looking for. It is sad to see it this way but unfortunately it is the reality we live in. However it is changing. Governments are finally beginnig to listen to their people and their concerns. Maybe in the near future we will give our excess food and water to those who have none. But the longer we wait, the more will die.

Thanks for your opinion!
What exactly is it that our governments our doing? Could you expand on what you said, I'm very interested. What do you think it will take to get to this point?
And it is very true - sadly - that we avoid helping these peple and continue to be wasteful simply because doing otherwise will not turn a profit for us.

To get to a point where our governments give our so called waste to thse who need it most will take some talking, stepping and standing for it. But the only ones who have the will and the power to do this is the youth, in other words, us. It will take time as it always does but we can do it. Take for example the election of president Barrack Obama. He changed the world because he was elected by the PEOPLE! Already governments around the world have changed policies on how to deal with elections, for intance the end of monarchy in Nepal. This all took time but with enough supporters it came about. Who says that 'feeding the world as a whole, eliminating hunger, can't come about? We have the will and the power we just need to let the rest of the world know that this is not the way we want it to be.

we could feed everybody on this earth if we really want to.....but who really wants? this is a big Question?
how many times we wanted to have that choclate fantasy with vanila icecream, people with money have the taste although we wont die if we dont eat it. so instead of spending 200rupee for a tiny piece of this cake (which just gives us nothing but a taste and a desire to eat more next time) cant we feed 6-7 poor ones with that amount. we can get good amont of food for 200 rs in india.
now calculate the result if 10 rich people practise this for a month.

and belive me my country is so poor so poor that it collects huge amount of taxes, feeds the terrorist in the jail and let the farmers go sucide if the monsoon fails. great logic, no doubt.

Yes, there is a large amount of resources available for food but as said earlier economics is the problem. I agree where he says there is enough resource but i dont believe that it will be THAT expensive getting it where it has to go. In the middle of the desert a large town could be built and has been striving for years (Las Vegas), millions of gallons of water runs through amusement parks per day yet thousands/hundreds(alot) of people die of thirst per day. If people stopped looking at the bill and took a stand to end hunger then within a year not one child would be unfed.
1. Built water plants at the coast of thirst stricken countries to alleviate the drought problem. Sea water can be treated and recycled ova n ova.
2. Introduce green houses to maintain crop production even in the worst droughts. Built one, then another, then another, anything helps....
Those are just two small steps that can make a huge impact on life for those who need it. The world economy is enough to do at LEAST those two for a start. We ourselves can help. We are the future after all. Someday one of our peers will assume control as prime minister or president or hold other high positions. Do not forget people are suffering while we live in comfort. Do not say we lack the capital to help the starving. Millions of dollars are wasted everyday on the most trivial of things. Even if every person on the earth gives 1 single dollar towards the cause of starvation that would be far more than enough to end World Hunger. People have become rotten, selfish and blind to the cares of others. Unless it directly benefits them not many will rush into it. We have to bring in the era of change. Let us take a stand to end World suffrage..... --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- !xotîz

Those are two really good ideas! And I really like your point about Vegas and the amusement parks - although I love amusement parks, they are just one example of the abundance of resources that we are wasting, while others are in need. I feel a bit guilty enjoying these luxeries.
