How to Improve the Rich-Poor Gap

The “rich-poor gap” has been increasing, as global poverty and world inequality are on the rise. How do you see your role as a global citizen in improving these conditions?

Well you could all send me some money. That would decrease my gap. LOL
Anarchy or Communism would be the only way except that it only changes the haves and have nots. A great idea to spread the wealth until you start seeing special road lanes reserved for the politbureau officials in big cars, then you know something has gone wrong. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Jo Devizes knows a womens website that is rather good.

One of the culprits to blame for the increasing gap between the rich and the poor is globalization. Through economical hegemony and the taking over of local businesses in many developing nations, this gap continues to increase. This issue is, of course complicated, and to start to decrease the divide because the upper and lower classes would probably mean considerable changes politically in developing and the developed nations. However, one simple way to decrease poverty in third-world nations is to teach family planning techniques to help lower the populations, as well as provide people in these countries with a higher-quality education. Yet, this is nothing new to anybody; the only problem is to find a way to have these policies and others like these implemented. And people have to care.

It's sad to say but there will always be a gap between the rich and poor.
As human beings, we're inherently greedy. As such, we don't want to share with those less fortunate than us.
I wish it wasn't so, but that's the way it is. All we can do as human beings is give as best we can and hope we are helping.

Whilst the big companies prefer to keep increasing the executives and managers pay whilst keeping the workers as near minimum as possible, the gap will never get better.
Here in the UK the rich-poor gap has increased, despite New Labour promising to cut it when they came into power over 10 years ago.
Why they cannot put a cap on the top earnings so that the rest can catch up is beyond me. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Jo Devizes knows a womens website that is rather good.

Well, I think that it certainly isn't true that humans are inherently greedy. Environment plays a large role in how we act, and culture fosters greedy behavior. Maybe its just time for a change in culture. And yes, I definitely think that we should place caps on wealthy businesses and people. For some, there's a point where money doesn't matter anymore, since they already have enough money as it is.

Wow Here in the UK we have a saying, the more you have the more you want, and it would seem to be true as people try to grow their wealth as much as possible. Of course, some of the super rich, like Bill Gates set up foundations to spread their wealth but lots don't. Look at the big global companies, they are not satisfied making small profits, they have to make more and more. Rather than make small profits with full employment, they will prefer big profits by laying off lots of their staff. Taking over companies who are making a modest profit and getting rid of their work force.
The unrest in the populace increases when the have nots suddenly see what the haves have actually got and they realise just what they are missing out on.
Even at working level there is gross inequalities as you will see from history. Every time the poorest paid in any organization gets a pay rise, the workers further up the pay chain all start demanding pay rises to keep 'parity'
As the saying goes I am alright Jack and that, I fear, will always be the case. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Jo Devizes knows a womens website that is rather good.

I'd have to agree with Julia H, when she mentions that it is actually due to cultural factors that certain peoples appear to be inherently greedy.
Not to pinpoint any specific culture, but generally in the region that is known as the "Global North" there is an implied and incessant drive to succeed imbeded within western culture. This drive to succeed, I would say, applies to everyone, regardless of class or status.
All of thos eindividual wills to succeed just naturally mean that, no one is looking out for anyone and everyone is each other's competition. And so the gap between the rich and the poor increse. Its an unfortunate aspect, but I definitely think that then first step in decreasing the perennial gap between the rich and the poor starts with a dramatic shift in cultural perception.

I would love to agree and whilst many cultures are quite altruistic you only have to look at the politicians to see the darkness in the countries soul.
How many of them have their noses in trough. Even here in the UK where the politicians are well paid, they have been caught with their hands in the till over their expenses.
There will always be individuals and groups who can rise above their base feelings but not the entire nation I am afraid. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Jo Devizes knows a womens website that is rather good.

I'd say a communistic approach would be best, a while back our Prime Minister began experimenting with a form of Communism and, well, people thought they would have to "share" all their assets and a large portion of our rich left the island. Communism is th only effective way i can think of right now, where the distribution system of the world can be changed. Or even if they do not want that, if we all pool together significant differences can be made to lessen the gap.
Well, like i always say, we are the future leaders, so one day we will be the big wigs who control the flow of capital, i think we should first focus our efforts on restoring monetary balance to the world as we continue to med as a global community. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- !xotîz

If man were an altruistic animal, I would agree that communism, or maybe socialism would be a good way to live. However, you only have to look at the special road lanes for the Politbureau members, the special shops, the country houses that occurred in Russia, to know that the poor would be kept in their place.
I am sure that the senior government officials in other communist regimes enjoy the same sort of privileges.
Sadly capitalism or communism, the poor get the crappy end of the stick which ever is in power. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Jo Devizes knows a womens website that is rather good.

This is a situation that may be difficult to bridge. This is because a rich person has access to a lot of resources than a poor person has - education (both academic and non-academic), technology, etc. All of these help make the rich succeed more in life. And so it becomes a continuous issue.
