Does infrastructure define quality education?
July 7, 2009 - 12:26 PM

Almost all colleges that claim to impart quality education are prioritising on physical infrastructure in their well-invested advertisements. Is it infrastructure that imparts quality education? How important is an institution’s infrastructure to advance their studies?

Yes, it does as any form of quality education most times depend on the infrustructures. if there are no good infrstructures, then there will always be problems. for instance, learning facilities need to be if not in abondance but adequate for the learners at all times. it high time we start using modern learning facilities and not those pre-colonial systems that have no space in modern day today.

I agree with shar, Your view is great. And also we need to understand that Education marks the empowerment of one's knowledge. And to develop and enhance these knowledge colleges helps us to generate our thoughts and ideas.A proper education system will invent students long term career vision.Yes,advertisements accumulate us the idea to seek for suitable colleges. So, this makes us easier to know about the colleges that we are heading for.But students should also be aware of the fact that, only advertisements do not meet the requirements of their education. They should be extravagant and alert of colleges and should know about the current and past activities of the colleges as well. At this 21st century, colleges should have a friendly environment, fully equipped learning resources and plenty of room to sustain the education factor. This provides students more lively atmosphere within the college premises. For example: colleges should have their own library, well maintained classrooms, computer halls, extracurricular activities, social events, and also personalized attention. To conclude, colleges main concern should be the education factor maintaining the infrastructure equally so that no student gets discriminated from what they should be grasping. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- sun-e-boy (सूर्य)

Indeed, that is how the educational system should be and nothing else.
For example, most colleges or other higher learnin institutions do not have any structure whereby student or other people can access information about the institution and their programmes. instead, they have to travel miles to come to that particular institution for those information and sometimes, the information cannot be obtain as they may tell you that the persons in charge is not available at the momentg but come later. so can you can you imagine if you are coming far away with limited finances then what happens to you.
So the issue of infrastructure is very important especially in the African continent where structures like access to proper database system through the internet for everyone regardless of their distances which could infact help towards poverty reductions as finances will be saved in many forms.

Infrastructure is a prerequisite for providing quality education. Infrastructure at university level refers to:
Computer labs
Science labs
Well equipped classrooms
Health services
Gymnasium and sports complex
Library
Student housing and more..
Availability of infrastructure is a good indicator of the quality of education provided by an institution. Without adequate infrastructure, it will be difficult to attract qualified and learned faculty and it will be virtually impossible for the institute to conduct research and development studies as these require extensive research facilities and labs.

There are several other factors including the curriculum, the faculty etc. in determining the quality of education. Usually, accreditation of a University or a College is a good indication of a institutes standing and quality of education. Accreditation is a process by which higher education institutes are peer reviewed based on stringent criteria and application of those criteria. In India, the National Assessment and Accreditation Commission ( NAAC ) is one of the most prominent accreditation authority. One of the criteria used by the NAAC in assessing universities and colleges is availability of adequate infrastructure. Various other accreditation authorities including the internationally famed Association to Advanced Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB ) have similar criteria based on infrastructure availability.
While availability of infrastructure is one of the issues, other prominent issues include:
equitable access to education
education outreach and enrollment in higher studies and
relevance of learned education to careers and real world workplace
