From Heart of Green:
"The Peruvian government under President Alan Garcia is auctioning off the indigenous peoples’ lands to oil, mining and logging corporations without their consent. Peru has already opened 75% of its Amazon territory to oil exploration. In the last month, Garcia has signed contracts for 15 more oil concessions in the Amazon."

Today there is going to be a peaceful march in downtown Lima (capital city of Peru) in the afternoon. Unfortunately I won't be able to attend, but I'll post something as soon as I am better informed!

It would appear that President Alan Garcia is determined to plunder and destroy Peru's beautiful environment for short term profit... Peace marches are usually ignored by governments. If you want to get their attention, Hit them where it hurts ( in their $$$ pocketbooks.) Strikes, roadblocks and putting a halt to their business interests will bring them to the negotiating table. Passivity will cause them to pass you by.
