2009 is world countries election year but not peace year

Year 2009 seems most countries out of 257 countries in this world enjoying election year but why still far to be named as 2009 Peace Year.
Do you think that EU can lead the way to make this world a peace place to live?.
My hope EPP(European People's Party) able to do it after 3rd. year running winning. of course beef up economy, as well.
EU must be stronger than G20. Mr Wilfried Martens must work hard for it.
