It looks like a good step.
European Union started has an Economic Agreement between some countries..so I guess it can be a good thing to stimulate the economy and by that prevent conflicts so that the countries can actually develop in terms of Health and Education which are the basis for every society..
but who am I to talk? The people who live in Africa are the ones who have more knowledge to talk about it..

I was not previously aware of this treaty, so thank you for sharing that information. I agree it definitely seems like a good step towards what Africa is aiming for, however, based on what I have heard about Africa's current situation, it does not seem to me, that the conditions of the treaty are being fully enforced. If the leaders of these states are to sign such an agreement, they must be ready to practice what they have, in fact, agreed to. As we say, some things are much "easier said than done."

I completely agree with you colleague and that is why we as young brid of Africans, want to inject new systems far from those ones that our ancestors have failed to achieve. i am of that we can bring these changes with our collective energies and efforts. we are not going to give up hence forth as some body or people have to sacrifice for a change to take place.
therefore, i want to encourage us to collectively cordinate our efforts for positive changes in Africa.

It seems the lofty ideas of the treaty signed over thirty years ago is far from being achieved. The primary purpose is for economic and regional integration. It was expected that by now ECOWAS would have a common currency, The West African gas line project from Nigeria to Ghana and then other African countries should have been completed. ECOWAS passport should have been a reality. Nevertheless there are certain area that the sub regional body has made some progress. The establishment of the ECOWAS community court and the amendment of the treaty establishing the court to enable individuals bring matters of infringement of their Fundamental Human Rights before the court. There is also now the ECOWAS parliament. This puts ECOWAS at part with other bodies like the EU with all the three organs of governance. The big question is how effective are these organs?
Further more, the sub regional body has ensured that all member countries must practice democracy and members who fail to comply are suspended(How democratic are the governments of the member states?). Similarly, regional security is another area of credit the body deserves. The situations in Sierraleone and Liberia that was arrested are good examples.
For the body to achieve the purpose for which She was established; the Anglophone and Francophone countries factor has to be properly addressed. The fear by some countries of domination by other countries has to also be addressed.
I am of the opinion that what should be paramount on the agenda of these sub regional body is; how to eradicate poverty, ensure food security, security of lives and properties, access to health care, education and credit to small and medium enterprise and eradicating child labor and trafficking in persons among many others.

Yes, I completely agree with you about the implementations of the treaty. This is why we should start discussing issues of this nature on this very important network so that we can sound the oppinions of others especially within the West African region. i also feel that some aspect has started working just as you said. for instance, when our country Sierra Leone was faced with a brutal armed conflict, the Economic Community of West African States Military Observer group (ECOMOG) were immediately sent there led by the Nigerian military and followed by ghana and guinea who did extremely well before the intervention of the UN peacekeeping force and was again led by African forces before other countries came in with more troops which we are greatly thankful to all the strong men and women who sacrificed their lives for our country.
therefore, we should continue discussing this issue and also bringing some new dimentions to the entire process as the way forward for development.
