Saving Energy - Electricity

So many people often write in discussions about how we should do something about Global Warming. I guess one of the best ways for the country of Australia where I live and a country that produces the most greenhouse gases per population is to save energy >> by using less electricity! Turning off appliances, shorter showers, insulation over heating and cooling, investing in solar power! The school where I work is undertaking reducing their electricity bill and helping the planet. Little things like turning off lights and fans when you leave the room for lunch and at the end of the day. Turning off monitors on computers is another great way. what if all homes and all schools reduced the amount of energy they use! I think Earth Hour is not even close to what should really be achieved.

but thats still a temporary solution.. we must find a solution to take it from the root.. or at least reduce it to the minimum.. and not all countries can do this like australia maybe..
other places don't even have electricity
1 or 2 hours... that will just stop a little bit of it for a while..
but still better than nothing

What you have said above is the target of Earth HOur. I believe there are some other ways that we can done to economize energy. I prefer thinking of solutions for energy using when we need it whenever we want
Your topic is interesting. I am thinking about it

If we have our electricity supply from a green power station, we do not need to worry about saving electricity to lower carbon emmissions. However, if green energy is not possible, yes, saving electricity is a viable solution. I do that all the time. My monitor remains turned off when not in use, I turn off lights, the most used light bulbs in my house are CFL bulbs. Besides these there are also other ways in which we can save electricity. Insulating the house in one such way. Another thing missed by most people is that TVs, microwaves and other such appliances use up electricity even when they are on standby. So turning the switch off in the electrical supply will make sure they do not use up this electricity.
Recycling is also very important. We can reduce our carbon footprint by recycling and reusing. For example, we can print on both sides of a page and use softwares like Green Print to automatically remove unwanted images from prints.
These changes will have small impacts on our indivivdual lives, but together, if we all commit ourselves, these seemingly trivial actions will have a big impact on the Earth - it will save it from anthropogenic climate change.
