A friend of mind living in SOuth Africa and I were discussing the recent elections in South Africa where Jacob Zuma , a man accused of rape and also earlier discharged from post because of corruption allegations, is now the President of the nation.
He not only won the elections but had a landslide victory !!!
How did this happen????

Of course they did ! Thats a fact.
but why? Was it simply lack of options?
or the fact that he could be a rapist just didn't matter?

I would love to be corrected, but I believe in South Africa the politics are still based on tribal affiliation. Zuma is the head of the ANC which primarily attracts the Zulu population. Some Zulus are switching over to the other political parties, but I believe Zuma was playing on tribal emotions and it was more important to elect him, a Zulu, than what he stood for. He was actually tried in court for the corruption claims and the rape claims I believe, but both times he was let go for lack of substantial evidence.
It is unfortunate, but Im sure it happens a lot more often than we think.
