Hey you know, http://www.tutor.com/ is one of the most well-known and successful online tutoring service in the U.S. I have never tried once so I don't know what it's like. But I feel bad about it because we can't even see our tutor's face while being taught.

Yes Online mentorship is very popular in US. Because it's not easy to find real tutor. I think Online mentorship is required as we have to accept this in future.
In Online mentorship you can use webcam chat

I havent really heard of online mentorship specific to students. More so aimed at small businesses etc. For instance last year I participated in the Young Enterprise Scheme where we formed real companies and made real products.
Business mentors from our country kept in constant touch with us and we sent them emails about our progress and they provided tips and tricks for us to stay ahead of the competition.
With the SPLICE project we have a mentor, the research director in charge of over-seeing our progress. As well as regulary meetin Mrs Dyet and the other principals in the Te Awamutu district I also send her details of every meeting we attend etc.
I believe also that the 5 students who attend the conference, who are chosen to carry on with projects back home will be mentored. I guess this will involve mentorship by email for those that lives in another country etc.
However, online mentorship could eb beneficial to home schooled students, especially those who live far awa from schools etc

I think online mentorship would be a very effective way to mentor people. I've heard about therapists communicating with their patients via online. The treatment was received better than those who saw their therapists face-to-face.
It also means that you don't have to spend a lot of money and time getting to whoever it is mentoring since you can be accesible anywhere.

I'm not that much familiar with online mentorship, but I think it is a good idea especially those who have no one beside capable of discussing them certain topics. Besides, this online mentorship is accessible to anyone, anytime.

Isn't Online Mentorship just the same as online education? I think Online Mentorship is good, it empower people to learn/teach from anyone anywhere, and it will be popular in the next few years. But it's necessary for both Mentors & Mentees to keep contact offline as well (phone, etc.). A good mentor shouldn't only know about what they mentor, but should understand whom they mentor

Online Mentorship is not same as online education. Online Mentorship is someone teach you online via chat or other tools (as sites given above). online education have bigger theme. online Mentorship can be a part of online education.

Thanks Khan It's clearer for me now.
I meant that doesn't online mentor have the same problem as online education does.
