Global Model UN 2009

For the first time ever, the United Nations Department of Public Information and its partners will be holding the Global Model UN(GMUN) conference for University students at the Palais des Nations in Geneva, Switzerland from 5-7 August. The conference will be a simulation of General Assembly plenary sessions and the Assembly’s Main Committees, on the theme “The Millennium Development Goals: Lifting the Bottom Billion out of Poverty.” We hope that GMUN will inspire the next generation of leaders to be come involved in national and global issues. This is one the major steps the UN has taken to fully include youths' actions and contribution for the betterment of the international community.
But most youth are yet to know of the GMUN
|

And while I'm at it, WHY are these things forever stuck in Europe or some other faaar away land?? How are other people (like, say, err, Jamaicans) supposed to actively participate when you're eons and eons away??!!!

Again, thank God for the internet and mass media, or else I would live under a rock... luckily, with modern technological innovations, I can proudly claim to live on a rock (Jamaia being an island and all), not under one... hehe

A very very good point ! I find that very difficult too. Everytime it is a mad dash with scholarship applications and running around funding agencies.
I understand when university students organise their Model UNs in their own city. It is definitely convenient for them. But for the UN to organise it in Europe where there are already so many MUNs happening looks a little pointless...If they organise it in Asia or Africa or South America, it would have made more sense !
