STUDENT STATEMENT during the 5th Microsoft Partners in Learning Regional Innovative Teachers' Conference 2009
April 25, 2009 - 10:22 PM
|
|
I would like to propose that Students who took part in this online discussion should be preparing a STATEMENT for the 5th Microsoft Partners in Learning Regional Innovative Teachers' Conference 2009.
This way, the organizers and participants would understand what students have to say as well as on our recommendations.
The contents for the statement, I suggest, should be based on the theme of the conference as well as the topics they are going to discuss:
The theme of the Conference is Empower, Enact, Engage: Becoming Agents of Change
The Innovative Teachers Program is dedicated to:
* bringing together a community of teachers as learners.
* facilitating the creation of collective knowledge.
* creating a platform for the advancement of best practices and adoption of innovation.
* providing training and access to technology resources.
* delivering integration confidence to teachers using technology in the learning process.
* engaging teachers intellectually and offering opportunities to be active stakeholders in their profession.
I am looking forward to hearing feedbacks on this matter.
regards,
Jessie James

A statement concerning what, exactly? Do you mean a goal or resolution? Care to provide an example?

A statement that the youth could submit to the organizer for consideration. I can provide one, but I would ask the rest first before doing the same.
Keep going!

What a great idea Jesse!
I agree that it would be a really useful contribution for us all to make a statement about change in the learning environment. But I think we could go above and beyond a short written statement. I see an opportunity for us do something much better; we could create an impact right at the beginning of the conference. I’m talking about collaborating on a video, showcased to delegates at the very beginning of the conference.
I feel that this could be something very powerful; the media of video is an effective way to communicate some complicated ideas and even emotive messages (if you feel so inclined LOL). (To those of you who have viewed our ‘You have a message video’, you know what I mean.)
A similar thing has been done before by well respected educators from around the world. They clubbed together and each made a brief statement about change in a short vid called "Learning to Change/Changing to Learn".
Wouldn't it be great for us,STUDENTS from around the world to do the same thing - collaborate on our thoughts and ideas about education across the world and upload it to YouTube and use it at the Conference? (We need to make this statement flow with the themes of the conference. Empower, Enact, Engage: Becoming Agents of Change!)
I’m willing to organize this video, as I truly believe in Jesse’s original idea- “This way, the organizers and participants would understand what students have to say as well as on our recommendations.” Teachers sometimes have to be reminded that their students have voices and what better way than this?!
How about everyone writes their own personal statements and posts these statements in this thread. Then we can consider the overall content so that nothing is duplicated and all our key points are made. If we all label our statements as DRAFT in bold - we will know that we can collaborate together on each other’s statements and add suggestions etc. This way we will have amazing, heartfelt statements and sound advice from global students to global teachers! How awesome would that be?!

Details - Once your statement has been agreed upon you then record/video your personal saying like they did in the educator’s video example. If we find a website to jointly upload these to, one which we can easily download them from, I’d be happy to construct a “professional looking" video.(We've worked on a few with our learning facilitator and I can easily access any technical support needed. What do you think?
P.S Katherine, as a staff member of TakingITGlobal do you know if it would be possible to upload the videos to the website, and what would be the easiest way to share these clips and edit them together? If TakingITGlobal would like to contribute to the editing of the video that would be very cool as I imagine your resources would be larger than ours.

Thanks for the inputs you've provided here and the support for this initiative. Yes, it could be good to make a video after making the FINAL STATEMENT so that it would be more wonderful for presentation.
As suggested, I would like to reiterate the CALL for statement submissions from all of you here so that we could come up with a perfect statement where all youth voices are taken into consideration.
We are giving everyone 3 to 4 days to come up with one. I am looking forward to receiving your statements.
We will definitely include or collaborate all the ideas and make it into one, and after that, we will make a video. Marcus already volunteered to do it for us.
Great!
Looking forward to hearing more feedbacks from ALl.
regards,
Jessie James

I would like to extend that CALL for statement submissions. It would be great to come up with this so that OUR VOICES and DISCUSSION here are ALL summarized and will be presented in the conference in Malaysia.

I would like to reiterate the call for the creation of STUDENT STATEMENT for the 5th Microsoft Partners in Learning Regional Innovative Teachers' Conference 2009.
It is essential so that we could finalize or even reach consensus among us here to come up with a statement regarding our recommendations regarding technology.
I am looking forward to hearing more of you guys soon.
regards,
Jessie James

Hey Jesse, what did you think about my idea?
Of getting everyone to make a statement and then after its finalized, have them record them saying it.
And we then combine them all together in one video. So as not just one group statement, but our own individual ones.
Do you understand what I mean?
Which way do you think we should do it?

That's a great idea, Marcus. Yes, we will do it. Kindly inform your friends there to submit their statements, and after we receive many, we will make it as one. Then, we will do the video things, which I believe you volunteered to edit it, right?
