Is technology good or bad to education?
While it is true that most of the students are saying yes to this question, still there are some student who said otherwise as well as some of the old people?
Let me know your feedback.

Jessie James

It is not the matter of good or bad but it is the matter of how to apply technology effectively in education.
In medical school, I was wondering how students and lecturers can work without machines.
On the other hand, some subjects at school doesn't require technology much. For example, psychology. How do you guess other's thoughts if you just chat with them through lap.

Great, thanks. This question was raised based on the two opposing ideas I observed from people. Some said it is good, and some said it is bad.
You raised an idea that is good to consider. Let's here from other people as well.
best regards,
Jessie James

Hmm, I find this question too subjective. First of all there is a need to define "Education". If we are referring to textbook knowledge, gathering facts and figures, I think the whole rationale behind using technology depends on "How" it is used.
On the other hand, if we talk about education as a way of learning life-long skills, civic sense, moral responisibilities, I think the current use of technology is very much harming it. Though am very much sure that it can be greatly improved
I feel there are only very few things in the world that technology cannot accomplish, provided that it is used in an intelligent manner.

Thanks, Sagar. Subjective questions in discussions plays an important role in reaching and getting more inputs from youth.
Based on your points, you've said, the way I understood it that technology is good or bad depending on what kind or type of education is it going to be applied.
I am looking forward to hear more of you and other people here in the forum.
Thanks for your participation. Feel free to post more.

Jessie James

Precisely. Also am not very sure how to take a stand for this question.
Is the question referring to current ways of using technology(as in those which are already in place), or technology(in general), which can be used ??
Because, I think that technology, the term, is also too generic. Again it narrows down to two questions: Are we talking about the technology that is in place for teaching purposes(for example laptops and LCD projectors in each class, electronic boards), or is it just technology broadly(internet, new gadgets, cellphones) ?
It is not very easy to answer the question under so many aspects. I believe that for each section under technology, we can evaluate its role in "education" (in reference to my last post).
Looking for a reply,
Cheers,
Sagar

Great! Let's use the term in its generic sense as the TECHNOLOGY issue itself is really generic.
I understand your point, Sagar, but to answer this question, I suggest you, if you may, to just try answering it including your questions. This way, you will be able to answer it very well. I trust that you can make it. Just write your ideas in its generic sense, coupled with your questions in mind, and your answers will go smoothly.

Jessie James

Let me provide instances regarding your 2 questions..
Using technology for teaching purposes is definitely good for it boost excitement of the students to study, it assists teachers in explaining the topics, and it eases students learning, among others.
On the other hand, like internet, there are selected helpful websites that provides accurate and are secured which is good, unless the students are not being supervised correctly in using internet and therefore its bad. The use of cellphones during class hours which is not related to the subject matter is justifiably incorrect, unless emergency. It is actually prohibited or students are being discourage to use cellphones and other electronic devices that do no tplay an important role in learning here in my country.

Hey great point there Franmarie. But now when we are seeing everything in good light,(disregarding how technology can be misused, and considering only how it can benefit us, I think cellphones also play an important role in education.

To further elaborate, take my example. I get regular updates from my teacher via sms about submitting tutorials, reminders about deadlines for various projects, as well as alerting venues and timings for various meetings of my co-curriculur activity.
Also, whenever I wish to see my teacher, and am not able to find her in staff room or elsewhere, i just send her an sms.

Moreover, one more practical use that I see is contacting your group members, team mates etc., if they don't turn up for a meeting or event. Just give them a call, and you'll know why they aren't there.
I personally find it very convenient, as I have been in many of these situations previously, and am sure it's the caes with everyone.
With cellphone in your hands, you stay connected, all the time, to all the people

I agree to that sagarwarlord, I can really atest to your point, especially here in the Phhilippines, cellphone is the most common electronic device. A Filipino can have 1 or more cellphones. Like me, I used also cellphone to contact everyone. And that includes school matters. But it is not allowed only during class hours or if the class discussion is on-going to minimize or avoid distractions.
Thank you Sagarwarlord for appreciating my point.
