In my School that a Good Quality Local High School at Jakarta it had been a presure . Our Education system at school imitate a system at college. With only 7-10 subject in one semester but with many compresitation and very fast time with big ammount chapter that must be finish.
In my school i must go to school at 06.30 am and Study 4 subject for a day and can go home at 02.00 pm but if you take only 20 SK But if you had 24 SK you must go home at 04.00 pm and if 26 sk you must came to had extra school at Saturday.( 1 sk is 2 Hour of teaching, 2 hour of Work/Assignment and 1 hour of homework, in one week. ) In one Semester we must At least had 20 Sk To complete 3 years of study on high school. But if you had a good grade you can take a more Sk like 24 or 26 .
A day I must do 3-4 homework for tomorrow. Its just hard to study like that if you had many activity like Extracurriculum and some private to bost up a grade.
Just Hard ^.^

How are we assessed?
Everyday we have short quizzes (10-20 items: Identification and Enumeration type, or computer-based), either from the previous lessons, OR for future topics not yet discussed, in almost all subjects especially, major subjects.
Every friday is the long quiz day (30-50 items: Identification, Enumeration, Analysis, or Essay type).
Every 2 1/2 months, we have quarter exams (more than 100 items: almost all test types).
We have annual exams such as Achievement test by City or division and the other one is National achievement test.
Aside from written assessments, oral assessments are of heavier percentage.
We have graded recitations everyday, team competition (quiz bee-type), panel discussion (popularly known as oral defense; either individual or group), one-on-one discussion (student-to-teacher).

In my case, we spent around 9 hours of school here in the Philippines. We usually start at around 7am and end at 5pm. We have a lunch break for one hour from 12pm until 1pm.
Subjects are really defined in each year so we take around 8 subjects a day and they differ every year.
After our class, I hang out with my friends around our campus or around our city.

During that 9 hours, how many hours you spent in using the technology, including computer? I'm referring to the usage of computer as part of the learning process, not on games, etc.

My classhours was the same with johannalei. We almost spent 9-11 hrs in school. Our computer usage run between around 7 to 8 hours max. I know you're familiar with Philippine curriculum. We seldom use computer for subjects such as Filipino, Values Education, and PEHM, unless we had presentations, reportings, and demonstrations or simulations... but since our curriculum is different from other school (science/technology and engineering curriculum), we widely use computer and other electronic devices.

An average day in school for me would begin at 7.30 am and end at 2.30 om. I took 9 subjects all together-national language, english, maths, additional maths, chemistry, physics, history, moral studies and accounts. We would study around 6 subjects everyday.each subject for about an hour plus. we normally use computers for research projects. After school, we either have extra classes from 3-5pm or clubs and sports. So I'm usually at school from 7.30-5pm. The amount of homework varies according to the subject and teacher. We get more homework for the tougher subjects like additional maths and chemistry, not as much for history and languages. Maybe 3 or 4 essays a week and some literature exercises.

My weekends are usually free, so I do take a rest. Only when there's a competition coming up, I spend my Saturday in school.

My average day at school is very simple. My school starts at 7.30 to lineup and listen to the announcements everyday. After listen to the announcements, we have the first period. The first period starts at 8 o'clock. Each period lasts 50 minutes. We study for 3 periods and have a short 30 minutes break. Then study for another 2 periods and have an hour lunch break. After the lunch break, we study all afternoon. Finally, school finishes at 4 o'clock. In Thailand, we don't have much freedom to choose which subject to learn. There is some kind of choosing but not that much. When we are going to be the tenth grade every school will let us choose to attend a program. There are 3 programs: Science-Maths, Maths-Art, Art-Linguistics. These programs are different in the subjects they teach. Science-Maths will teach biology, chemistry, physics and higher maths which I chose. Math-Arts teaches common science and higher maths. And, Arts-Linguistics teaches common science and one language. These are my average day at school and what I learned at school.

Many of you spend a lot more time at school than Kiwi kids do. Do you think it is beneficial? Or would you prefer less time in structured school and more time for personal study/socialising/relaxing?
I am quite happy with the 5 hrs of class we have each day (including breaks it is 6 1/2 hrs), though sometimes I’d like an extra hour, mostly to accomplish what needs to be done for all the different extracurricular thing there are to be involved in.
How much of that time do I spend using technology? Many days none at all, probably. Teachers use the projectors, but I make the most use of technology at home. I am really reliant on my computer and would have trouble doing as well in school if I didn't have it.
The internet gives me the chance to catch up on research, find images, connect with my friends, check the criteria for assessments etc. and I use word processing HEAPS (my spelling has gone down hill, I think).
I would also be keen to know how much time you spend at school personally using technology. I think it would help me better understand your views for the future by knowing your current experiences.
Thanks!
Liza

For me, it depends really, I enjoy staying in school not only to learn but also to mingle with my friends and other students also. I enjoy studying in groups and also my friends and I conduct a tutorial to the lower levels in our school.

Obviously it depends what school you attend, but I school from 8:45am-3:25pm with 4 lessons a day of 70 minute duration. We do 6 subjects each and they rotate evenly throughout a cycle of 10 days. Mon-Fri only. Many co-cirricula activities are offered and they run after or before school hours. In the senior year levels we get 2-4 hours of homework per night with extra study expected.

For me it is beneficial. We don't actually learn in a classroom frm 7-5. After the lunch break most students can be seen doing some kind of sport. So I do believe we are being molded into holistic individuals. Plus, after the hours of learning, playing sports and attending clubs meeting is a good way to cool off a little.
As for how much time I spend using technology, I'd say it varies. Sometimes I use it very often. As my school has a robotics club, when we're preparing for a robot presentation/competition, you'd see me with a laptop on my table most of the time. At other times I don't use technology at all. Most of the time though I use it for about an hour a day at school at the comp lab. I don't really need to use it much because I prefer using my personal computer at home.

So Shobana, what about classrooms ? Do you in any way use "technology" or modern gadgets, for usual, daily learning in your own classrooms ?
