SO MUCH FOR CHILD RIGHTS ACT!
April 22, 2009 - 02:23 AM
|
|

Following the adoption of the Charter on Rights and Welfare of the Child by Organization of African Unity(OAU) in July 1979,Nigeria in 1991 ratified the convention on the rights of the Child. In order to further strengthen this move, the Federal; Government passed the Child Rights Act in 2003.
Yet for all these lofty policies, so much remain undone in the area of Child Rights. In fact ,the situation of things makes one wonder if there is anything like child Rights in the country. A drive through our roads or highways would tell the sad story. From the many child hawkers piling their trade on school days to the neonates tied to their mothers back under the scorching afternoon sun ;to the ever present child beggars that dot the Lagos Benin expressway. The list is indeed endless.
Many questions comes to mind; but these would suffice. Are they Children? Are they Nigerians?
They too are Nigerians! When would their salvation come? So much for Child Rights Act!

I think the child rights act would be more succesful if there were more police officers to enforce this and if the government became more involved in the community. Its not enough to just write up a new law or policy, that doesnt change anything, you have to enforce the law or policy and make examples of people who break that law or policy. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Alexandra T.

You know so much is said as to what government should and should not do, my question is this, WHAT ARE YOU DOING TO HELP THE RIGHTS OF THE CHILDREN IN YUOR COUNTRY????
I know government and the police are ment to enforce these laws but reality shows thats not happening you have a voice USE IT, please visit my website
http://www.lisasavage.webs.com
we all have the power to help children, stop being one who points the finger as to who needs to do what be part of the solution as start doing what needs to be done, many times the police do not have the resources to inforce laws that are passed they can not be everywhere all the time, why not take the first step and be the one to come forward and help where you can.
The most prescious natural resource that any country cna have IS ITS CHILDREN
DO YOUR BIT TO HELP
