Empowering Young People!
April 21, 2009 - 07:56 AM

The MDGs are supposed to be a way for poepel to hold their governments to account.
So what is the best way to empower young people to hold their governments to account, espeically young people in developing countries.
What tools can be used to engage YP people in this process?
Thanks
Sophia

i guess a lot of young ppl dont knw they are suppossed hold the Government accountable through the MDGs. so i guess we should carry out great awareness amongst YP.
A lot of YP do not knw wat the MDGs are all about so there is need for education.

Most at tmes, young people are used for so many dubious things, such as :rioting, demonstrations, a bunch of chaotic individuals and so much more. Those who engage young people in these activities are mostly the adults. For developing countries, young peoples participation in issues affecting them is a dream. Leaders will not like to involve young people in decision making process since they dont see the need for partnership of young people.
When the youth is well empowered, boh in and out of school, they can actively contribute to the society in which they live in. I believe that the Millennium development Goals will be achieved if young people are actively involved in its implementation, monitoring and evaluation process.
"The future of the World lies in the EMOPWERED youth".

I completely agree with Jerry that education is very important because most young people dont know abou the MDGs. Sensitization and grass root education should be carried out by government officials. Also, the media can play a vital role, by advertising or giving a slot to educate each and everyone in various local languages. This could be done either on radio, television or print.

i think the youth are the strongest implementers and realizers of the millennium goals if only the stand up to their task of taking active roles in governance and public participation and state accountability.

I’ve been getting involved in a little conversation over at the ActionAid UK news blog on democracy and international development and I’d love a few more people to join the discussion.
It really gets to the heart of the issue of how we bring together empowerment and participation to bring about more accountable government.
No thought is too small!

How about launching programs in the rural areas of a developing country, in which the programs includes the introduction of what MDG is and its goals. More specifically in schools to raise the awareness of young people about it.

Young people should get involved in many helpful activities. In developing countries, projects should be imposed for young people to measure their ability and therefore, can help.
