Facebook is great when it comes to maintaining liknks witha whole bunch of people. (Friends, yeahhh ! )
But skype is more convenient when am speaking to my family back home.

Good, facebook is just as nice. I use skype only to speak with my parents basically cuz calling isn't the best option economically.

Totally, I agree with everyone's view about the cheap economy online messengers can bring.
Since I'm a user of three email accounts namely yahoomail, gmail, and hotmail and also a user of Facebook, I always use meebo.com.
Meebo is a free online messenger where you could combine more than two different accounts in one messenger. Meaning you have just one online server which accommodates more than two of your accounts. This way I could get in touch in anyone 24/7.
I haven't tried using a Skype account but maybe in the future when I have a online career like teaching English to Chinese, Korean or Japanese Nationals.

We use Skype given how cheap it is for international phone calls.
