I KNOW SMOKING IS INJURIOUS TO HEALTH, BEING A PUBLIC HEALTH STUDENT I AM AWARE ABOUT THAT. BUT MY FATHER WHO HAS BEEN TAKING CIGRETTE SINCE HIS CHILDHOOD IS STILL SMOKING. I TELL HIM NOT TO SMOKE BUT HE WONT LISTEN. I AM WORRIED ABOUT HIS HEALTH MORE THAN HE DOES. CAN YOU PLEASE GIVE ME THE POSSIBLE REASONS SO THAT I CAN QUIT HIS SMOKING HABIT WITHOUT LETTING HIM KNOW ABOUT THAT?
DO YOU FAVOUR SMOKING?

TELL YOUR FATHER THAT YOU TOO WILL START SMOKING BECAUSE YOUR FATHER DOES OR TELL HIM THAT YOU COULD BUY A BOOK WITH THE MONEY HE SPENDS IN SMOKING OR YOU CAN MAKE ANY REASON THAT TOUCHES YOUR FATHER'S HEART MOST.....LIKE YOU CAN LINK IT WITH YR SISTER OR BROTHER.....ITS JUST MY SUGGESTION

A human being abides by the decision which are taken emotionally, till the time surrounding is emotional. In case you start smoking, may not resolve the problem. Infact possibility of you getting addicted to it is more. Let's not do so. The way I look at the situation is..he had habit of smoking and now eventually he is addicted to it. Since it has been many years for his addiction lets be practical...his willingness along with the medical treatment can help him to get rid of smoking. Hope this helps.

No, I don't favour smoking as I am anon smoker since childhood and up till now at the age of 26.
I know smoking is another person's choice butif the need arise for us to talk to others not to smoke be it our parents or friends or non friends, then let us do so as we will be helping to save humanity.
My advice to you for your father is that, if you are been use to give him money, then start reducing on the amount or if you know any body selling it to him especially nearby persons, then any time he goes there, let them tell him that there is no ciggarrette.
I mean you the children should actually start reducing some support for him if at all you are responsible for such. I don't see any big deal if you give him certain conditions. as a mater of fact, when he is in prouble, all of you will surely be affect either financially or sychologically.

IS THERE A NEED FOR US AS YOUTHS TO STILL HOLD ON TO OR REMAIN PRACTICING THOSE BAD CULTURES OF OUR ANCESTORS? OR SHOULD WE CREATE A COMMON AND ACCEPTABLE ONE FOR ALL YOUTHS GLOBALLY?

Be cool and take your time.....to convince your father. Remind him everyday, like annoy him telling not to take cigarattes, when he smokes you counter attack the situation.

We need to brainstomr in this situation.
My suggestion is that you should be an example to your kids and they wont get tension as you are getting now!!!!!!!!!

stuff doesnt work, we can instead of yelling and screaming at them to stop research about affordable, easier ways that they can stop smoking and on a weekend encourage them to try it. it is their journey and a wall that they must pass
