Why are student voices important?

Why do you think it is important to incorporate students' ideas, opinions and experiences into events such as the Asia Pacific Regional Innovative Teachers Forum 2009? What messages do you think teachers need to hear?

I think that student voices are very important. If a school has only teachers but no students available, how can that school continue working. Thus, the forms or the manners of teachers' instruction should be based on students' background-knowledge and students' ideas.

Students is the main group which constitutes any educational institution. Thus, it is rather obvious that their voices need to be heard. Otherwise, the institution is hindered from further and greater possible progression. If students' needs are neglected, the school suffers.
Teachers should hear about what students hope to see in their future course of education. By saying this, I mean that the teachers should receive constructive feedback from students about what may possibly be improved and so that things will get better and better as time goes by. However, just as importantly, teachers should also hear what are the things which have been well done so that they can sustain these things, be it teaching methodology, knowledge delivery, uses of ICT, et cetera. In short, just like how students always get feedback and advice from students, the opposite should occur too.

What is the point of education? In many countries it is law that all young people must receive some sort of schooling for a certain period of time. It is not law that all adults must spend some time teaching (though that would be interesting). So I hope I don’t seem wrong in concluding education is for our benefit and improvement. It is inefficient to waste time guessing what we need and want. It is much easier to ask us.

it is simple. what the teachers are planning is for the future of our world and the future of this world are the students of today. I think teachers should hear what the students wants to be their future and how can these students help in building this future

students are the future of the country. That is why their voices need to be listened and recognized.
Students are the ones who directly involve in studying environment therefor they understand exactly what is happening. Their recommendations will be a precious source for managers in planning for the future education.

Simply because current teaching is outdated. Teachers need to hear what the students want out of education, from the students themselves..
Take a look, this video sent shivers down my spine.....
Bare in mind these are university students....
Quotes from the video
"My neighbour paid for class but never comes"
"I buy $100.00 text books that I never open"
"My average class size is 118, 18% of teachers know my name"
"I will read 8 books this year, 2300 web pages and 1281 Facebook profiles"

Just as teachers evaluate, assess, and guide students, we need to emulate this by offering feedback as to how teachers can accommodate to the changing needs of a changing generation.
Just as I’ve said before, technology is evolving exponentially and we are growing up in completely different circumstances from when teachers were our age.
Computer literacy and technological competence are becoming skills of increasing priority that employers are seeking in the future workforce. The conventional teaching methods are becoming inadequate for a society that not only holds intelligence and knowledge in high esteem, but also opinion, creativity, and practical skills.
Forums are an ideal way for youth like us, who offer not only opinions, but most importantly solutions to these issues.

Student voices are important because it is their or our future are stake here. Hearing student voices is the key to progress and development. For one, students have on their list the things that they want to know as well as what are the approaches that teachers should do in order for them to more interactive in classrooms. If it is otherwise, then they is a little chance of participation from the student. With that, hearing the voices of the student is the paramount consideration in drafting and planning future tools and strategies of educating them regarding the technology that are now evolving as fast as it could.

Teachers need to know what students think. This is a very good opportunity for students to hear their voice to the respected teachers about their demans. Teachers can enlighten us more if they know our point of view of learning.

Students' voices are valuable and significant for such gatherings because...
Students are the recipient of Education that may define their future and the future of the world.
The teachers need to hear students' views when it comes to efective teaching and learning, and, possibly, their strengths and weaknesses, to be able to formulate an excellent learning environment.
Therefore they have the ultimate right to voice out their concerns about what they perceive about education to be able to improve its quality and its competitiveness which is also for everybody's benefit.

The importance of students' voices is to improve their thinking process. It can fulfill their curiosity and increase their new ideas. The acceptation of the students’ voices stimulates not only their thinking process but also creative and positive thinking.

Each and every student has their own unique story, experience, idea or opinion to share that is why it is so important that the voices of young people are heard and that we have the ability to help mould education.
We live in an age where we are constantly connected to others; our unlimited access to information has encouraged the development of a generation of innovative and ambitious young people that seek success through continued learning. We are a tech-savvy generation and there is no doubt that we will continue to upload, upgrade and Google; three aspects of life that have had huge impacts on both the way we learn. The Google generation must be incorporated into events such as the Asia Pacific Regional Innovative Teachers Forum as we possess knowledge in regards to technology that is essential to the continual development of all education systems.
-I believe that teachers need to recognise the advancements in technology and utilise these in their teaching methods in an effort to further engage students and develop computer skills.
-I think it is also important to incorporate assignments and projects that reflect real-life situations and are able to be implemented into school and the wider community.
-I think it is essential that people from outside the classroom with inspiring personal experiences regularly visit students in an effort to motivate students and encourage greater learning.
-I think peer education and mixing different age groups of students is important, as we all have different and unique experiences and even I as a 21 year olf can learn a great deal from a 16 year old.
