Hello! I'm currently doing a project on HIV and AIDS and their impact on youths. So what do you think are the impacts of HIV and AIDS on youths? Why are there many youths with HIV and AIDS?

*The impact of HIV and AIDS on youths are that they have to bear both tangible and intangible costs in the society. The tangible costs can be their health deterioration and the money that they have to spend on the drugs and for different purposes so as to maintain their health. The intangible costs that they have to bear are the discrimination and stigma, their inferiority complex they develop because of HIV infection.
As per my knowledge, there are very few youths who doesn't know about HIV infection and AIDS, the thing that is merging youths into HIV infection and suffers of HIV infection is their negligence and the feeling that the disease is not for them....what I call it over confident and irresponsible.*

Yes Yashoda is very right. What she has outlined are some of the negative impacts of HIV and Aids on the youth. In general HIV and Aids reduce the labour force productivity due to frequent absentism for work due to illnesses, some spend time in attending the sick and in Africa some dont go for work because thay have to be at a funeral of a frirend, workmate or relative who died of HIV and Aids.
Governments also spend alot of money on ARVs. The money that would probably be used for supporting youths programs.
Now to answer the question ' Why is it that many youths are infected or affected by HIV and AIDs?
This is simply because some young girls who are not married engage themelves in sexual relationships with adults and they dont play safe sex. These same girls also engage themselves in sexual relationships with their peer guys and mostly they also dont play safe sex especially their boyfriends who have stayed with them in that relationship for a long time.
But my question to Nur is that; What type of a project is being implemented and what approaches are being used? Is it a research project or not?

The effects of HIV on a child’s family
Children live with family members who are infected with HIV.
Children act as carers for sick parents who have AIDS.
Many children have lost one or both parents to AIDS, and are orphaned.
An increasing number of households are headed by children, as AIDS erodes traditional community support systems.
Children end up being their family’s principal wage earners, as AIDS prevents adults from working, and creates expensive medical bills.
The effects of HIV on a child’s community
As AIDS ravages a community, schools lose teachers and children are unable to access education.
Doctors and nurses die, and children find it difficult to gain care for childhood diseases.
Children may lose their friends to AIDS.
Children who have HIV in their family may be stigmatized and affected by discrimination.
