Re-branding Nigeria Campaign...Your View!
March 17, 2009 - 11:53 AM

On Tuesday, March 17, 2009 at the International Conferennce Centre, Abuja, a new chapter opened in the effort to re-brand Nigeria’s national image as the Federal Government formally launches the "Re-branding Nigeria Campaign" [A project initiated by the Information and Communications Minister, Prof. Dora Akunyili] and unveils the slogan and logo for the image laundering campaign.
Fellow Young Nigerians at home and abroad and young changemakers globally,
"Re-branding Nigeria Campaign" initiative is generating lots of debates.
However, as youths who in the near future would feel the impact/consequences of the re-branding project:
- what comment do you have to make on this initiative? and
- what can we as young people do to make this project worthwhile?

This is a welcome development and I appreciate the Minister of information Mrs Dora Akunyili for her passion for CHANGE.
Youths need to be carried along in the rebranding process. For this project to work, Youths need to be more enlightened and giving a platform to be more active in its implementations.
There should be a wider publication on the Nigeria-Flag as this will draw the awareness of a truely great Nigeria globally. It should be given Broader preference to in the entertainment industry where we have Nigeria Flag being showcased in our Home-movies, musical videos and other events held within and outside Nigeria. This to my view, should be the basic start-off point.

You would wonder how well you wil do trying to kill a huge try by plucking out its flowers. I think you'll need to start from the root.
What that means is that, we need grassroot oriented program to change the image of Nigeria. first, provide the common social infrastructures and then deter politicians from stealing public funds. The Battered image of Nigeria is as a result of vicious politicians who had plundered the system and the concurrent reaction of youths in diaporal.
I think this is just another attempt by a politician to cater away public fund under a phoney initiative. Pardon me if you think I'm pessimistic, but I have a few selected case in the not so distant past.

Folks,
optimism is a concept that can't be given to much to, in the realm of reality. What I was saying in my last post is that,we must take a very careful look at initiatives like this. Check them out in five years, they're gone with absolutely no impact except in the pockets of those who started them. Please, you may want to ask then Minister, Alex Akinyele. I mean we've been there before.c'mon!

I think, we just have to move on to support this initiative, how would it be taken to the grassroot? Its all about money. so money would go then.
Every good things comes with a price tag. If Nigeria would lose money to get Nigeria re-branded, then let it be spent.
Again, we must all at least try to accept change optimistically!

In actual fact, the campaign starts with us, even as individuals.

i am of the fact that information without pragmatic usage is wasted as a result....Rebranding Nigeria if we choose not to accept this process will remain obsolete in our system.

I think the govt. and its active participants should start to rebrand "NIGERIA" by fixing the school systems, build the crack toads, even provide electricity. You do not ignore the building of social infrastructures and the opt to build name. House of Assembly should start by refusing the bribes offered them and governors should stop exporting our money overseas. This is where the building should start from. With these efforts we could be optimistic and not just another politicians' pet project. Please, please, give me a break, we'd been there before.

Giving you a break?
we have been there truly, like i said usage is same as implementation....
therefore we must start first from our families ,to communities then town...
we need value orientation of Nigerians
you made mention of bribes who would ever accept he or she took bribe?
who would accept he gave one?until the true fabrics of this nation is made of men and women of intergrity... rebranding Nigeria wiil be a mere mirage

Hey guys, I have read through your comments...no doubt that you all possess the true spirit of CHANGE. I must state categorically here that the RE-BRANDING is a wellcome idea. What i want the Federal Executive Council to do is the fact that they should all embark on active governance and not to leave it to one ministry alone. The Ministry of information is in no doubt out for a change but the truth of the matter is : are other ministries willing to do same? this project is for every person. we cannot be thinking of rebranding when the Power sector is nothing to write about, the Agricultural sector is not improving, Works and Housing not providing good road network and affordable housing for the citizens,....for God' sake Fashola knew well he is to Rebrand Lagos...what did he do? he made sure every sector are active, by giving the state the major development which is visible and not giving a good packaging without the buyer actually tasting from the content. thats why people are responding to payment of tax because they are seeing the usefulness of their tax.
The President need to show that he is the head and also buy into the idea and see to the effectiveness of every ministry and not just make Nigeria a Brand without good content.

That does not dymistify the fact that Re-Branding is not a process.the product in several attempt has failed to have "NAFDAC" registered../fashola did a good job and is still doing it
there is a loophole here the General in Nigeria is not pragmatic enough too "cold to drink"How can we refresh our thirst.
i think we should start planning when we get there what can we offer?and How do we find expression in this present action.
safe

Marvelous idea! This rebranding . But what are we rebranding ? What is the basic idea behind the rebranding process? How does it affect the common man? How would it change the lot of the old woman I saw begging today at the filling station?
So many questions; the list is endless. Are we rebranding just to white wash the image of the country when back home it’s all rotten? The motive of the rebranding process is what we must ascertain before we shout eureka and thump our chest that the panacea to our problems has been found.
To the best of my knowledge, if the rebranding process does not start back home ;it’s just but a hypocritical move that time would catapult to the trash bin of history where such ill intentioned rightly belong!
