Social Justice
March 10, 2009 - 05:51 PM

Hello everyone,
I am a student in the United States learning about poverty and social issues around the globe. I am very interested in learning more about any social issues taking place in developing countries. If there is anyone out there who would let me interview them or could lend me some information about any social issues from their country or some of the situations that are taking place in other developing countries, please let me know. I am looking foward to discussing these issues. Your time and information will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

The question is very serious.Especially, the lower castes of india facing a tough backlash from upper castes of india whic hare deadly against reservation. This is more or less like american affirmative action. But,it has a clearcut difference.

okay I took a look at the articles that I saw online about Thomas E.Weisskopf. I thought it was very interesting to learn about the differences of the affirmative action in the U.S. and in India. From what I read it said that the reservations were being ignored by the government in India. It is sad that something that is going to help the social issues is being limited.

As a Canadian I guess you wouldn't think this would be too big of an issue for us but...

well, the truth is Canadians seem to have very little interest in our own government. They have successfully bored us into submission. The political freedoms that so many countries don't have we shrug off as irrelevant to us personally. Because there is seldom any excitement in it.

Which really, is just sad. I am curious, does the US experience similar problems? I know its not quite genocide or something like that, but if people don't care people don't vote.

And then you know they will complain when they feel misrepresented. I often wonder how you would get people interested in their own country...

you wouldn't think it would be very hard, would you?

All of the people i know are very active with the U.S. I have heard that some people don't want any part in my country. I think that it is a choice for people to get involved with their country. There is no way we can force a person to get interested in it but trying to help is a good thing also. It can be hard to get people to do this but if they want to feel like they have a fair part of the country they should fight for it themselves.

yes, now, the weaker sections of the indian society has got a new awareness regrding their rights. and state is also trying to implement more strictly.
in government sector jobs, college admissions etc. They are also demanding private sector reservation as well.this is more less like a diversity programme of USA.

Do the people in your country that can get those opportunities have the experience to do the job, to the school, ect? do they purposely give the jobs just because they are a minority?

no,These candidates must have minimum qualification prescribed by the govt.Otherwise, they don't get any job or admission into the universities .like blacks in USA,they must have representations.I believe so.
