Should people be as concerned about the welfare of animals as they are of the welfare of impoverished people?

hi,
well i`ll tell you how i think about.
when a was a little child, i grew up with my parents in a little suburban. because they were both working, one day they decided to get a dog, who cares about and protected their capital, when they were working.
two years ago, i moved into a very outlying house, with a little forest and so on. i think, i was quite lonesome, and of course, thieves tried to brake into my house.
one day i met a friend of mine, he had a dog, and was full of trouble.
when a saw benny(the dog) the first time, it was like fire in my eyes.
since this day, i`d never felt made something wrong. my dog has some caracter traits, i miss by the peole. it`s also a kid of love. do not laught^^.
it`s great, to know, theres someone, who would give his life for you. as long as you`re a good friend to him.
a lifelong trust among humans is more rare i think.

poverty and Animals depending from the perspective you are looking from are somewhat interwoven. Animal breeding could greatly alleviate poverty while at the same time animal keeping by low income earners greatly abuse the rights of these animals as they will not be well catered for due to the poor status of their owners. however, animal keeping and poverty alleviation are closely related areas which when due attention is given to it, there shall be remarkable progress as far as poverty and animal situations are concerned.Proper animal keeping and proper usage of animal wastes greatly improve on the organic nutrient contents of the soil and aid in environmental conservation.

While I think animal breeding is an interesting prospect I don't think it's particularly a nationally sound idea. Where I live you consistently see reports on the news every so often about low-key puppy mill owners being busted for not taking proper care of their pets while the humane society seems to be struggling as it is to find homes for those pets they already have. Breeding even more dogs and cats and whichever pets would only make that situation worse in my opinion.
As far as the original post goes, did you mean which of the two should take priority if we were only able to focus our efforts on either human poverty or proper animal care? I would give precedence to people... to an extent. Because of my religious beliefs I feel that people are more important, although I also think that mother nature and us as a whole are inseparably connected. I mean, what would we do without the planet and its animals as they are today? To me human poverty is technically a more important issue although I also don't think that we should allow that to get in the way of putting in our fair share of effort into taking good care of animals as a whole either.
Don't get me wrong though, I love animals and think that we should definitely do something about the injustice of how poorly some of them are treated these days. They're very important and special and we should definitely give them the same love and care that we wish to be given ourselves as people.

I think taking care of animals would benefit humans greatly. A healthy ecosystem means healthy world for humans to live in. Welfare of domesticated animals is important because they form a part of the livelihood of those humans who take care of them. We could have benefits like free medicine and treatment for such animals, and adequate food, all charged on the state. Where I live, shepherds during the dry season find it difficult to feed their herds because there's hardly anything growing. It leads to hungry goats and sheep (which is really sad) and it means less profit and more expense to the shepherd. I don't like the PETA/or related groups' way of looking at things where precedence is given to animals over humans. But, certainly, in a rural or at least semi urban setting, we need to have some kind of programme for animals as well as for poor humans. They kind of benefit each other.

The subject matter on poverty and animals is so broad. I just assume that the topic is about our domesticated animals and vary from region to region. The love for animals have eclipsed the love for humanity.People have had emotional attachment to their animals for various reasons. Some animals have special and natural rewards to the owners;security,protection,research,psycho-social healing, aiding in disabilities, play and sports, and others a sense of belonging, bride price, and collateral security for different owners.
In the west, owners can do anything in their power to cure, restore and rehabilitate their animals. In other countries, because of cultural reasons, poor people will have animals for economic security. The Karamjong tribe in Uganda have thousands of animals with in them, even though the QUALITY has been compromised. The Karamajong look at the QUANTITY rather than QUALITY.
Having diseased and underfed animals degenerate into poverty
