Funding Help without charity status

I am currently planning a conference for early March 2004 in Toronto, Canada. We do not have a business number, or registered charity status due to the fact that this process would be far too lengthy and difficult considering
the age of myself and my planning committee. We are, however, doing our best to plan a fun and educational conference.
I am sure you have a number of questions about the conference, so I will give you a basic rundown of what our plan is. Basically, we want to have a conference that would focus on youth activism and networking. The format
right now is to have a two day conference with a pre-determined theme and 4 separate issues stemming from this theme, one at each level of action: local, regional, national, and global. There would be a general address by a qualified speaker on the theme and then a number of large and small moderated discussions. Tabling of youth-oriented activist groups would be encouraged, as would networking of students to achieve initiatives/ideas
brought up in the discussion.
Basically, we are having trouble finding funds for the conference because we cannot be registered as a charity or declared a not for profit corporation. We would prefer to avoid corporate funding, but right now are so desperate for money that we're worried that we may have to ask corporate doners.
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
