Hi,
Poverty has a huge part to play in HIV transmission. Lack of education and poor health care contribute to the spread of infection. Lack of knowledge regarding safe sex and infection (for example, the belief that sleeping with a virgin cures HIV)means HIV and other STDs remain critical issues. I remember doing a report on current antiviral drugs that are quite effective in improving quality of life of patients, however most poor countries can't afford these drugs. Also the stigma attached to HIV, even in wealthy societies means people avoid getting tested and seeking treatment. I read somewhere that if everyone gets tested and people with the infection get proper treatment and practice safe sex, we can rid the world of HIV. Obviously it makes sense in theory, but not in reality! How do you think wealth may drive HIV transmission?
