I don’t think that peace can be achieved through governance, even if the government is global. Indeed, we’d have an authority that recognised the needs of everyone, but those recognised respects would be forced.
My idea of peace is not forcing people to get along. Peace, for me, comes from a willingness to agree, and is based on understanding. And the best way to understand each other is to create a dialogue.

I'm afraid I can't advocate a global government while the ones we have are still a little inept.
When you get down to it, I really don't see any reason that there needs to be one large government. Separation of powers has never been as effective as separate coutries. Each country is individually resilient, able to withstand things that other countries may not.
The bureaucratic machine is a false view. It doesn't work. I think we should be proposing smaller socially familiar groups, then these people could collaborate more effectively.
Now if only we could get these groups to focus only on things that would help the people... Maybe if we gave everyone a bit of power?

Yes.
The saying "United we stand" is true.If we ,as peoples of the world nations , are able to come together we can and will achieve more than when we are divided. We can definately sort out global issues such as security,terrorism, poverty...alot faster.

I think well meaning contributors to this discussion are confusing the problem with the solution. The reason we have such destructive wars and no peace is that mega states governed for and by transnational military contractors are governing us. A union of these states will not bring peace, but "freer trade" for these contractors.
Particular to this problem is the most violent state on the earth, the United States, where a clear 50 percent of the tax revenues of the treasury goes to these contractors. Other strategic considerations notwithstanding (such as oil dominance), why else would the USA be in Iraq and Afghanistan, dropping megaton after megaton of bombs on unarmed civilians? To catch Bin Laden and his Al Qaeda gang, a group that supposedly hijacked two planes with nothing more than knives? Really! What has turned into a genocide in Iraq has the stated objective of a criminal search. Whom benefits from this escalation besides Boeing, Raytheon, Lockheed Martin, Halliburton, and the rest of the American Killing Industry.
If you live in a war mongering state, especially the USA, and you want peace, don't pay your taxes.

I believe a global government would go in the same direction of the idea of communism. Think, "Great, a country where all are equal and no one has to worry about a class system!" That is how communism started out, but now we see that it has caused some problems.
Same may go for a global government; in theory it may be smart, but until you put it into action and watch its affects, you will never know of the problems that could arise from such a world.

Global peace is achievable,if we the world citizens agree on a common purpose.Racism should be put behind and equal-opportunity promoted in order to achieve peace.

I don't really think so, it might happen if we worked really hard on it, but think about it, we are not really in a peaceful mode right now, and if we ever wanted to make a global government everyone have to agree on it and on what it purposes,that could never happen, and that will lead to more conflicts especially that the government won't able to monitor eveything that happens, in little countries they can't, what do you think of earth.
So for me that idea won't work unless you solved all the problems and issues, and got everyone in the same page, and when you achieve that you won't be needing a global government in the first place.

I'm a little bit afraid.....the oppressors won't allow it happened.The rich get richer,while the oppressed Having little or no wealth and few or no possessions..........

I don't wholly agree that one government is what will create the peace that we yearn. However one leader would eliminate the conflict between opposing politicians, meaning no war. But would one government be able to do it all? And this one government, this hegemony if you will, will it not also need to gain power and influence through violence and war?
