Every year, the Global Campaign for Education (www.campaignforeducation.org) and its affiliates organize Global Action Week to highlight the need for governments around the world to do more to meet the goals of the Education for All movement.
In 2009, CGCE's annual Global Action Week is focusing in on The Big Read, as the campaign action that will focus in on Literacy for All. In cooperation with the international GCE, we'll be is distributing a special life-changing book of short stories written by remarkable people, about how education changes the world as we know it. The book will be contributed to by authors locally and internationally and distributed to millions of campaigners in our 100 countries around the world.
Youth, their teachers and others are invited to host a Big Read event in their classrooms or schools. They will read some of the stories that interests them – and add their name at the back of the book to a statement that asks their government to provide the needed finances and political commitments to make sure everyone is able to read and write. Thousands will add their names to the back page and CGCE will send their names to the Canadian government.
