It appears to me that the current situation in Palestine is out of control. I am horrified that the Israelis seemed to have learnt nothing from their experience at the hands of the Nazis. What is happening on the Gaza Strip is reminisant of the treatment of the Jews in the Warsaw Ghetto. Surely having experienced the barbarism of racial hatred and intolerance the Jews could show more compassion for the Palestians, but their settlers and their Army seem to favour the heavy jackboot approach to women and children instead of coming to the negotiating table to peacefully resolve this land grab. It sounds as if the jews agree with Hitlers Liebensraum policy as well as his horrid methods.

Good point you have there.
There's something I've noticed for a couple of years now. It seems scary in a way because it looks like Israel wants a complete elimination of Palestine. Everytime you sign up a form on the internet, say, you want to become a member of a social network, a dating website, or just about most places on the web where you need to fill the country tab, and there is no "Palestine", as opposed to Israel which is listed as country. I checked hotmail and they have Palestinian Authority. If you can list Israel as a country, I think you must list Palestine a s a country. Just seems insidious.

You two have a point there..
as an ordinary person who had watched a lot of cruelty that they did to the Palestinians especially to the women and children, I can't stop wondering...what is exactly they want?
Why can't they resolve it with truce and peace?? Why must these innocent people be the victims? And until when such violence will be 'ignored' by others? Remember, this earth is our home..we must take a good care of it and the people who live on it as we all are brothers and sisters... *hoping that peace will bring us together*...

The question of why looms large in this conversation.

I think there are two ways to approach the question. 1. What are the root causes; 2. What are the causes still in existence today.

Using other areas of conflict from around the world like the Balkans, Afghanistan, Kashmir, Somalia, Rwanda, Burundi, Indonesia, Basque, Cyprus and the list goes on. From these examples I find the answer should be looked for through the lens of the second question.

Why are people still fighting? Why are governments still oppressing their people? I prefer this approach because it helps us find a solution.

Focusing on the absolute truths of "who made the first blow" only creates a game of tit-for-tat. Developing cooperative environments is the key.

The essence of my story: our economic system that is devoid of compassion and that promotes excessive-greed is at the source of our conflicts. We must change the system while maintaining each communities level of well being, according to their standards.

It is a great challenge, but so was abolishing apartheid, freeing India for the tyranny of England, abolishing slavery and the list goes on.

Lets start working on solutions!

With compassion,
Sean
