my friends and i just had a four hour discussion on what we'd do if this happened! i think a lot of people in urban areas would die and a good amount of the people in rural areas of developed nations. we've lost too many of our survival skills. i read a fiction book called "Dies the Fire" that deals with this scenario.

Like those famous lines ,whoever said them, "life as we know would come to an end" !
I live in an area where we don't have electricity for upto 8 hours. Now there are no power cuts because of the coming elections, but its not a very good thing , life without electricty. The plus points are that it makes you more organized, that is, you know later there won't be power, so you finish up things that use power, like blenders etc,. And no electricity also means lesser light pollution, so you can see the night sky clearly. There is lesser noise pollution from all houses. And I am sure people stop getting addicted to TV and the internet. On the down side, its not very safe to go out if its night. And maybe you can't charge your mobiles when you really need them. On a larger scale, al industries would have to come to a standstill, no banking, no travel, no nothing.
Without electricity, the world would regress many many centuries. No, we won't die. We'll just adapt to doing all things during daylight and grope in the darkness after sunset!!
