Lets Talk About OBESITY !

Obesity is a major health problem of the western world,we may call it the disease of the 21st century. The eating of certain types of food coupled with lack of exercise helps in an increase in weight, which is a major cause of the serious health problem: Obesity, however eating red meat devoid of fat is better, for example it is better to eat trimmed lean ham which contains about 7gm fat per 100gm of meat than dry cured rind-on bacon which have 29gm fat per 100gm of meat.
There are various meat products such as low fat sausages that have low fat content and are good snacks that will not increase your weight when you eat them.
Does red meat contain fat that causes obesity and Heart diseases?
The truth is that red meat does not contain saturated fats,at least half the fat found in red meat are polyunsaturated fats and heart-healthy monounsaturated fats. In recent years however, the fat content in red meat have been drastically reduced.Lean beef contains 5 percent fat, Pork 4 percent fat and lamb 8 percent fat.
How can eating Red meat improve my Health?
Red meat like beef, pork, bacon and lamb contains iron available only in plant foods such as plantains, pulses, nut seeds and green leafy vegetables. Also red meat is a good source of Vitamin B12 which occurs naturally only in animal foods, current research show that red meat also contains selenium that acts as an antioxidant and has the ability to reduce the risk of heart diseases and certain cancers.
Since red meat is high in protein which is important in the repair of body cells and is low in fat, therefore it is an excellent diet that helps in weight control thereby reducing the risk of obesity.
Eating red meat can help keep the heart healthy because red meat contains small amounts of Omega-3 fatty acids. Since Omega-3 fatty acids cannot be produced in the human body, diet such as red meat should be taken since Omega-3 occurs mostly from oil rich fish and some people eat little or no fish.

Hmms, I agree with a lot of the points made in that post.
I think that obesity is a huge problem in the Western world, and I believe that exercise and fun activities should be something that everyone makes time for.
Diet-wise, I agree that fish--> more specifically salmon are great choices to eat. But I do disagree with the consumption of pork. Just from gathered knowledge: Pigs are unable to sweat as much as normal mammals and thats why they roll in mud; thus if a pig carries any sicknesses or diseases; that stays embedded within their meat.

Obesity is a big problem in the developed world as well as in the developing world. The reasons could be many. But I agree with you - eating red meat has nothing to do with heart disease or becoming obese. Its just some bunkum spread by doctors who have no idea about anything regarding diet. Also, we all must switch back to eating traditional foods, and not eat processed foods which are bound to have ill effects because they are pumped with preservatives and added vitamins and many other ingredients that will make us obese. The best way to stay healthy is to go back to our kitchens and start cooking, and stop eating out at restaurants. And eat locally grown food.

Weight gain and obesity are caused by consuming more calories than the body needs – most commonly by eating a diet high in fat and calories, being sedentary or both. However, the imbalance between calories consumed and calories burned can also be caused by a number of different obesity-related factors, including genetic, hormonal, behavioral, environmental and even cultural. It is important to remember that obesity is not always simply a behavioral issue. In fact, endocrine researchers are on the forefront of medical research into the mechanisms of metabolism, appetite and satiety and their connection to obesity. For instance, genetic traits, the way a body expends energy (metabolism), hormones that affect the way calories are processed (hyperthyroidism), and other organ systems in the body can all affect appetite. Eating disorders, metabolic syndrome, behavioral issues and an individual’s environment and culture may also affect the development of obesity. For this reason physicians consider many factors when assessing obesity.

Obesity is known to be a very big issue that has affected many people here in the United States, were women are especially affected. But what is obesity? Many people think obesity means that a person is overweight, but that's not exactly true. An overweight person has a surplus amount of weight that includes muscle, bone, fat, and water. An obese person has a surplus of body fat. Most health professionals concur that a man is obese if he has over 25 percent body fat, and a woman is obese if she has over 30 percent. Women physiologically have more body fat than men, so that’s why there's a difference in percentage.
It is difficult to determine the exact percentage of body fat a person has, but estimates can be made in a number of ways. First, using a tweezer-like tool called a caliper; you can measure the thickness of skin folds on different points of your body and compare the results with standardized numbers. Also what can be use is a small device that sends a harmless electrical current through the body and measures the body fat percentage. The most commonly used method to determine if a person is obese is to look at his/her Body Mass Index (BMI). A person with a BMI over 30 is considered to be obese, and a BMI over 40 is considered to be severely obese. It's important to remember though that BMI could be misleading in pregnant or lactating women and in muscular individuals.
Other risks that are caused by obesity are the increase of diseases such as high blood pressure, type two diabetes, heart diseases, and breast, colon, and prostate cancer. In addition, obesity has not only caused diseases, but has also been related to the cause of mental health conditions such as depression or feeling shame and low self-esteem. Further more, many obese people are discriminated against and targets of insults and other verbal abuse.
Increased consumption of sweetened drinks has contributed significantly to the raised carbohydrate intake of most young American adults over the last three decades. The consumption of fast-foods has tripled over the same period.
Also the cause of not sleeping well results in becoming double obese, according to research the risk applies to both adults and children. If you do not sleep enough you produce Ghrelin, a hormone that stimulates appetite. Lack of sleep also results in your body producing less Leptin, a hormone that suppresses appetite.
Obese people are often discouraged because they think they have to lose plenty of weight before any rights are experienced. This is all false. Any obese person who loses at least 10% of their body weight will have an improvement in health. It is also important for patients to realize that a small portion in weight is a good start and a great achievement. Some experts have found that obese people, who often lose weight slowly and constantly, are more successful in keeping their weight down when they have reached their actual weight.
I believe that if obese people have more support on loosing weight, they themselves can have better motivation to keep up their goal, and have better health.

Indeed, obosity is very common in the westernworld. It is depressing to see so many young people having problems with their weight. In my opinion, it has a lot to do with education and what they were tought since they were children to eat.
Most of them are not aware of how much they gain weight from the aliments they buy from supermarkets. They should be more informed on what to eat, when to eat and how to eat. Also, drinking is one of their problems.
