SCORPION VENOM TREATMENT FOR BRAIN CANCER.

Scorpion venom is being tested as treatment for brain cancer, reserachers in the united states stated this. The sting unleashes a cockfail of neurotoxins containing a peptid that binds to some tumor calls but leave healthy cells untouched. Peptides are molecules that join together two or more amino acides, which are the building blocks of protein.
In test, the molecule invaded tumours in breast, skin, brain and lung tissue but left healthy cells alone. Researches at Trans Molecular, a company in Cambridge, massachusetts, have new attached radiactive iodine to the peptide. The aim is to see if it can be used to deliver lethal does of radioactivity to cancers. In a trial last year, the scientists injected the agaent, called Tm 601, directly into the tumours of 59 people with in operable brain cancer, New scientist Magazine reported all the patients have since died, but those receiving a higher does lived an average of three months longer.
Recently researchers at the university of Chicago have started giving the treatment to patients with different types of Malignant brain cancer. The latest trial will allow the company to test whether Tm 601 can seek out and kill secondary tumours through out the body, as well as known primary ones said New scientist.
