Scam Job Opportunities
November 21, 2008 - 05:16 AM

Hi everyone.

I would like to draw your attention on scam job opportunities out there and especially on the web.

I don’t know about you, but I realized scammers also use social networks to get into people’s lives. They send you a friend invitation appreciating your professional/education profile and relate it to a current job opportunity in a big organization.

The scam comes in when you are asked to send your resume (CV) and that you have to get a membership card and working agreement/contract from the organization you may work with.

Be vigilant not to send your passport number and any other personal data, not to mention money to receive the above mentioned membership card or any other document.

These scammers are present on popular social networking website we all use.

Be vigilant

Hi,

I too had a similar experience very recently. Pls don't accept any one as friends if his/her profile does not show the identity. In TIG, you have the option of checking one's project/group involvement, organizations supported etc., Check those first and accept friendship. We need to be alert as clever spammers will update that details too!

Habeeb

Thanks for sharing this Ndzulo - and I also just want to add that very rarely will employers contact individuals to apply for jobs. It's usually the other way around. And it would be very rare for an employer to recruit through a networking site - so if you are approached in this manner you should already be wary.
