$23 million art -- Is it really worthful ??

The UN office at Geneva has unveiled the new ceiling with paintings worth $23 million....
It has raised criticism among all. Popular Party (Spain) lawmaker Gonzalo Robles asked, "how many thousands of children could have been looked after with the money spent on the artwork??"
Check this for details and share your opinion in this.

I agree with Robles. Not only is that money WASTED, literally, it could have done SO much for humanity.
The UN is, either way, a controversial organization. They pay their employees ridiculous amounts of money, yet seem to do very very little for the world. And when they do take action, it's usually AFTER an event has taken place and it's over. *shakes head*

Even smaller organizations and under-developed countries have the right focus of doing best things for the people.
While the entire world is focusing on the local and global issues around, it's really worrying to see the strange behavior of a very important organization.
If such activities continue, achieving MDGs will remain only as a dream...

Wow that is very true. I agree that putting such a high price on a piece of art, could be better used towards something else.
But then again my mind starts to think of all of the hard work and careful planning that must have went into the ceiling painting.
Overall, I have very mixed views on this 23 million dollar situation.
Art is essential in the survival of any culture, yet at the same time the survival of a culture's people is even more important. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Chantelle Ennis-Charoo

I agree with you that while it is very important to preserve culture, the people of that culture and the children they create and the stories they pass down are definitely more important. I think that $23 million definitely could have been spent on something else, especially since we are facing a global economic crisis. I am disappointed that the UN didn't decide to put that money towards achieving some of the goals that it created for itself. How many children in school, how many people fed, how many drugs for AIDS patients? The number is almost ridiculous. This is an example of how the selfishness of those who have the means continues to result in the destruction of those who have not.

23 million dollars for art work is completly insane. Like many of you have mentioned above me, this money could be used in so many ways such as Education, food, shelter, health care, sanitation and the list could go on.
i honestly believe a couple of thousand or more spent on any piece of art is not worth it. People who spend ridiculous amounts of money on such things, should also generously learn to give back to their communities.
Really what has this world come to, i am still in shock 23 million!!!

It's none of my concern whether UN spends what amount of money on anything but then it's really crazy to spent such a big amount on a wothless piece of shit..i mean what good will it do to u if u simply waste the money on some crap rather than spending it wisely in some good cause..like providing sme food ,shelter, water etc to those who r in need of it.....Being such a big organization UN should really act wisely...
