FUNDRAISING IDEAS!!
November 6, 2008 - 04:12 PM

I'm going to Ecuador next summer to build a school and i'm struggling to think up fun, effective fundrasing ideas.

I don't want to sell candy, because everyone does that.

I want a differant fundrasier, not something everyone does. i want it to be easy to organize and effective.

Thanks

Hi Hannah,

we had the same problem. Because we wanted to get to rural and marginalized communities and help them out with fair trade.

But getting the funding to do it seriously was important.

One of the things I did was to take part in competitions. we won 2 which came with some grants.

The other thing was to set up a fund raising platform at our website on elevyn.com: http://www.elevyn.com/beta/cause/sinompuru+women's+group, where friends of ours or anyone really, can donate $5 at a time or buy something, and we channel a percentage to that cause.

Another approach will be to approach corporates which are aligned with your mission, and look at their CSR programme

Hope this helps,

cheers,
devan

Hi!

Something I've found to work quite well in the past is to hold a more formal event, be it a dinner with speakers, or an art showcase, etc. You can charge admission. You can include a silent or live auction. This will give you the opportunity to educate others about your cause, which in turn may make them more generous with their donations.

At an event I recently attended they had a donations table set up like a silent auction. The items were things like : a hand-washing station for an elementary school in a developing country. (200$) Then people would begin to donate money, however much they wanted, and it was tallied up until they reached the goal. They had several items on the table at a time, and it was sucessful for them!

Hope this helps at all! Good luck!smile

Hi smile,

I think I have an idea for you, why dont you purchase accessories in cheaper rates like you can buy them from developing countries and sell them by organising a dinner party or any other event. Some of my friends are doing so in USA. They purchase silver jewelry from Nepal and sell them to their friends and with that money they are helping cleft palate project and education program in Nepal.
