poverty has been defined as living with less than one or two dollars per day. i think poverty
should be defined according to communities or country realities.like in my community some where in
cameroon, yaounde one one who lives with less than two dollars per day is not poor because he can
afford a kilo of rice and fish for him alone; in this case following the global definition of
poverty he is not poor...instead i think we should say poverty is the situation where one can't
afford to his immidiate needs such don't have the finanacial means to go to school, no shelter,
nothing to eat and nothing to wear.
what do you think

I'm agreeing with you....inspite having 2dollars or even more can't even stop poverty...teach a man
how to fish and not giving him fish everyday....because if every man will be able to work out for
his daily bread....i think it is the best means to drive away povertyamong us

Its fine that the person living with 1.25-2$ per day doesnot fall under poverty line. But,in my
sense, poverty is being poor not only in case of food, shelter and clothes,Poverty is being sick and
not being able to see a doctor, not knowing how to read, not having a job, fear for the future, living
one day at a time, powerlessness, lack of representation and freedom.

Poverty may have several definitions but the only bitter truth is that poverty exists
till the time the persons do not leave depending on others. A person creating a job for himself will
of course eliminate poverty. Think deeply, the eyes of a hunger are always waiting for your grant.
Lets encourage people to get involved and a desire to do so, then only poverty will be eliminated.
Sometimes political or other factors may be hindrance to get job opportunities, if so then have
revolutionary mind to get rid of that. Do Not Depend On Others For the Elimination Of
Poverty!!!!!!!!

I've moved this to the correct spot, since the Feedback > Questions board is for specific
questions to do with the website and it's functions.
I believe your thread will get more notice in this location.

i agree with al of you but i think poverty is not having the opportunity to do anything. you could
sacrifice yourself to go school but if at the end of your studies you have no employment
opportunity, then why have you studied? every one has wants to move out of poverty, no one like to
be poor...i guess governments need to do a lot in order to create opportunities for everyone and see
who will use them or not.

poverty as i think is belongs to person living standard . knowledge is very helpful to infringe the
poverty . But in my country there is a large difference in poor and rich, there is large assets of
country are in hand of opulent peoples.
That never think of philanthropic work and government is also not convincing them to do . The
policy made by government never reach the poor people and here abolish all effort to remove poverty.
Government school have no standard of studies there is no mean of studying there because it never
make any change in student's thinking and views. Moreover the parent of all poor children seen them
as a source of income as soon as they turned to 8 or 9 yrs .Generally all our effort to educate the
coming generation is restrict to bring them to school .

Poverty is a great curse to a Society and the nation as a whole.Well, poverty can be defined in any
way we think so, but as the productivity & income varies from nation to nation,it should be
viewed differently. The very definition of poverty should be revised and to be based on the present
living standard of the people. And to remind the old theory that Food,Dress and Shelter are the three
basic needs of a man also needs revision. So,i feel all the people being deprived of the revised
basic needs be regarded living under poverty. Its really shame to a nation that cant even feed its
all citizen.

I agree with you also, poverty is a situation in which people simply can't afford to get the BASIC
needs like water, food, education, shelter etc. These people (which make up more around half the
global population) suffer while most of us just stand there and mind our business! Yes there are
organizations, but most take in donations, which doesn't seem to do the job as I don't hear of any
decrease in poverty. I think we need to take this more seriously so people don't suffer. People need
food, water, clothing, and most importantly education. We've got to remember that they're one of us
too.

Exactly....if governments could stop wasting money into useless things and use that for poverty
issues, it could be a whole different story. I think we should rebel as public because what people
are forgetting is that the PUBLIC the most power in the world. NOT the government, not the military,
but the public.
