I'd say most, if not all countries have this problem. For democratic countries, though, this is not a problem because for each new source that shows one side, there is a news source that shows the other side. For dictatorships/communist countries, etc. (any country with journalistic censorships), THEN it's a problem.

Yes, I agree I think that its very true. People are often taught how to eliminate biases in their work but I guess for some its an unavoidable fault? --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Chantelle Ennis-Charoo

it's horrible in the U.S. i actually have to watch BBC or CNN to get anyting other than war or presidential coverage. the U.S. stations show virtually no world issues, at least not in depth. they may tell us that 2 countries are fighting, but it's rare that they will explain why or make it personal.

Actually, I think it is very sad but fairly interesting that boradcasting stations only show news from the perspective of their country.
Especially concerning political issues, it is clear that any country and in this case news station would stick to its countries way of thinking. But oftentimes, news just doesn't flow through.
Of course, the best example here would be news stations in China, but that would lead to a far discussion concerning censorship, which is maybe not appropriate in this context.
Anyhow, looking at news stations in the US for example, I entirely agree that there is nothing more to watch than CNN and BBC. All other news stations are local and only show local news such as the most recent robberies in some district area. Furthermore, of course, they are entirely biased.
What I found shocking in this manner was the news flow during the peak of the war in Iraq. I found it amazing at how little was shown in the US, and how little Americans were actually informed about the truth of the war extent.
CNN is a news station which operates more with influence of the the Republican party. Thus, it is clear that the station is taking a look at issues from one side only and that the station's information constantly comes from e.g. free lancers aborad who are also Republican.
I think all news stations tend to cover one side, whether local, public, private or global. There simply is no neutral news channel.
To get unbiased news or form your own opinion, I would simply suggest spending time on the internet and reading on current issues from different sources. This way, you can decide what to believe and what not to believe.

In this global age it therefore becomes our duty to delve a little deeper. Instead of just watching one point of view you must access news stations in other countries. Try Press TV, Al Jazeera, CCTV-9, Russia Today, NHK World TV or Euro News. or try NTA News Online, The Irish News Online. Online you can also access newspapers from all over the world and from every point of view. If you get your news this way you will begin to notice the spin almost every organisation uses but more importantly you will learn to make your own opinion rather than being force fed someone elses distorted or self interested view. Happy news gathering. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Andy ehwhiteboy

Yeah I've noticed that CNN tends to stick to the sides of stories they choose to cover. A great thing to do when seeking the other side of news stories is to go to alternative news sources such as GNN and others.
I think that although a bias will always exist, it is a good thing for people to be able to understand both sides. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Chantelle Ennis-Charoo
