On Current Challenges of the world and coming...
I think that the 8 Millennium Development Goals set forth by the United Nations General Assembly embody well some of the most urgent challenges: http://www.un.org/millenniumgoals
However, if I were to anticipate an underlying challenge for the near future. I would focus on access to technology and inter-cultural relations.
The former, because information and knowledge are more and more dependent on technological platforms for both the creation and sharing of content.
The latter, because technology alone will not allow us to come together as a harmonious world, for that, human-oriented achievements in understanding of cultural diversity and its added value, is the key.
