I have a question if you don't mind. We all know what is happening in Darfur and that's not the only place where these occurrences are taking place. How are conflicts such as this rebutted or even prevented when the national government is either corrupt or powerless to stop them?

Of course is poverty one of the main problems in our world especcially in under-developed nations. Everybody is clear, that we have to do something against. But I thin if act blindfold, we have no chance to beat poverty. The first think is we have to think about, how we tackle poverty efficiently. I think we have to spent money target-oriented and we have to think long-dated, only so we have a chance to do a big step in a world, which is not divided in very rich, this people will be there everytime, and very poor, this people we can help with the right plan.

I often disagree with the above assertion that poverty is prevalent in under developed countries.I will use African continent as an example.
Most African countries are not poor:it is the management of those resources around them that matters.
African countries have not done a great deal to innovate new skills for resources exploitation.
Africa is still the center for biodiversity of plants and animals.Minerals of every kind, cultural diversity and others.Africa is still catching up from an agricultural,semi-processed,light industrial, to a globalized economy. The transition is taking time to filter and be absorbed by African countries.
Africa is the richest continent in the world. It has the potential to uplift itself from economic and political instability.
Africa,as an example will use its vast natural resources base to develop its infrastructure to a community resource allocation: use of local community ecological tourism, ensure that projects in Africa have community participation approaches, and that communities benefit from the projects.Wetland management in Uganda, and The Lions and the Masaai conservation project in Kenya.
Developed countries consume 90% of the products from Africa in their industries. To get a good picture of poverty, look at each country. All countries are different and can not be aggregated together.

Do you all think that globalization levels the playing fields, or do the rich get richer as the poor get poorer, so to speak?
Globalization certainly offers job opportunities in areas where they were unavailable before. However, those jobs often come from the "Western world,"and thus take away jobs from "American people." Moreover, it has been said that there is no subaltern in a globalized world. I feel, however, that there is. There is just an increase in agency in being a subaltern in a global world. Some people cannot afford a computer but there are also those that choose not to own one. Their voices are not heard in a globalized world-- and therefore they are the subaltern.
Thus, I argue that, although there is a definite leveling of the playing field, both economically and socially, in a globalized world, there will always be a subaltern. Even if computers and cell phones are provided to the entire world, some will choose not to lose them. This seriously impedes closing the economic gap, but is a social, cultural, and personal decision that is unlikely to change. e
However, socioeconomic mobility is certainly facilitated by a globalized world. The United States outsources to nations such as India all the time. Indians are often willing to work faster for less money. This is, of course, exploitation and also leads to a new subaltern.
What are your opinions?

Most of us are aware of the poverty around the world, and we should be aware of its main cause.
We should also be aware that poverty is a huge problem in the the "richest" country in the world, the United States.
An excellent article (Poverty: America's Hidden Shame) spells out the problem, and the author also has written other articles on his web site that point out that the imperialism, colonialism and neo-imperialism of the last seven centuries is the main cause of most of the poverty in the world.

Poverty is an academic tool used to aggregate or disaggregate those who have not acquired or have access to means of production.

Try to be specific as every country on the issues of underdevelopment is different from the other.
There are so many factors like Colonial legislation,post-colonialism,ideologies of East and West, conflicts,Political Geography, edaphic and other climate-related incidences.
A narrow capital base, corrupted structures of government and the inabilities to deliver social services for its people.
I have looked at Macro-Economics a broader level than a single family poverty structure

To understand the question of Dar-fur,you will need look back the colonial question when the British abandoned the area during colonialism.
