If you know this, then how can you be fooled?
And I thought people spent money on Entertainment because they were still hopeful that it might prove to be entertaining (Chances of this decrease every year).
Personally I think people are good enough at being greedy and lazy themselves. They don't need T.V. to teach them that.
Greed and laziness will not evaporate with the absence of entertainment.
Do you have a plan to deal with the source of the problem? There is censorship, but that's never worked for anyone; there would be great public outcry and a black market in any case.
Entertainment is not the source, and greed, laziness and loose morals are only symptoms.
If you could use entertainment to inspire and inform, wouldn't that be the most elegant solution? Tricky I know, but I didn't want to leave you without a plan.

I don't neccessarily think that the entertainment industries and media have fooled us. People have the right to choose what they spend their money on and where.
I think that people in society should think critically about their personal requirements. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Chantelle Ennis-Charoo

I agree with Chantelle to an extent because people really are good at being greedy, lazy, corrupt without being indoctrinated by television. But in many cases, television has a huge influence on the way people choose to lead their lives. There was a Hindi movie many years ago in India where people took the law into their own hands and poured acid on criminals. After the movie there were several incidents where real people took petty theives and otehr criminals and as a punishment for their crimes, poured acid on their eyes etc. Now that is a terrible influence of entertainment. And yes, sex icons etc. only serve to make people more vain and try and live upto unrealistic expectations.

I can see where you are coming from in this.
There are many tawdry shows that exploit a nation's desire for fame, celebrity and a quick and easy pile of money. The format is very cheap to put on so the producers make a lot of money.
TV stations pad out their schedules with constant repeats which can be good as the early programs are so well written that they show up the new stuff.
Once they get famous, these celebrities will put their name to any thing, just look at the perfume counter.
You do have a choice. Just walk away, turn it off or do not buy.
If you feel strongly, write to the head of the company.
Sadly, I think that is all we can do without breaking the law. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Jo Devizes knows a womens website that is rather good.

This actually depends on what you consider entertainment.Personally for me music is a major source of entertainment and I can say that music definitely heals.
For other people other stuff maybe entertainment so basically all this is a matter of choice.
We all can choose what we want and there is certainly no liability on us to watch a particular thing,so in the end it's all a matter of choices.

Entertainment may have fooled alot of people but i will not be fooled.I can only take of what is beneficial to me and throw the rest in the bin.
Indeed there is a solution to this.If we could develop more programs that will inspire and inform,we will then give people a wide list of choice and if possible, sweep the bad and ugly programs under the carpet.

There are various forms of entertainment and we are always free to choose which ones we patronize. We make our own decisions.

Any publisisty good or bad, makes the $$ that they are looking for.
Is the media, to blame, well media, as an art fourm, is subject to choise.
But as the study of economics shows
when everyone is down and out of $$
they still come up with enought to see a move.
Why?
The promise of HOPE
and a good story to enjage their minds in something that means something to them.
What would happen, if everyone took a holidya for the same 2 months in the year.
and turned off the cable, or Satilte dissh or what ever brings in TV
and did not spend their money of Movies either.
It would be worse then when France all took the day off, and sank their Government and Fiscal mmatters into
Jummble, that took alot of work, to sort out!!
2 months would cripple the Film and TV indistrys
But live plays, street theathers would be booming, even the street bands Busking in the Sun!
Why do Humans, spend so much to be fooled?
We are hard wired to want to be hopful
and hear a great story to inspire us to great Hights, and Great Things
to the Future
Love'
E
