Who is your Nigerian Hero?
October 4, 2008 - 06:21 AM

If you were to vote for a Nigerian, either past or present, who has influenced the image and wellbeing of Nigeria positively; Who would you vote as the best Nigerian of the century.

While some humans can be bought at a price or maybe with a bag of beans, rice, salt or any material thing, hence the endless corruption we hear about almost everyday.

But few people in Nigeria can not be bought, no matter the price you name.
Their conscience is as solid as rock and unflinching.
Not even their family members and loved ones can make them to change their stand.
Not even money or material wealth can entice or tempt their hearts.
They are honest, sincere, intelligent, dedicated, principled and with integrity

I believe such Nigerians exist and I believe they are very few.

My Nigerian hero is one who understands values of tolerance, pragmatism, cooperation, and compromise.

One who does not understand any of nigerian languages (starting from litle common 20 naira bribe to other sore things we all know).

Sorry, I would had voted if we truely have these heros:
Sovereignty of the people
Government based upon consent of the governed
Majority rule
Minority rights
Guarantee of basic human rights
Free and fair elections
Equality before the law
Due process of law
Constitutional limits on government
Social, economic, and political pluralism

Finding a hero is not simple as other people take it to be, he / she has to suit your intentions, who can touch people's lives through her / his doings - And at last you can tell yourself that this person is capable to be my hero or role model.

Everyone is or can be a hero only if that person doesn't lose the root of identity (to tell people who you are, background, intentions), people lose identities by telling lies then what kind of a hero can they be?

Dear you are a hero.

One man DR. ALBAN he basically put Nigeria on the European and world stage with hit music and also respect the fact he has not sold out like many do once they have money but he has kept providing money for various projects in Nigeria and africa to promote safe sex, medicine and to abate poverty.

The greatest challenge facing us as a nation today is to spearhead the revolution of our legal system to both reflect our existence as a strong, united nation, and our socio-cultural differences. As a democratic federation, we must, of course, expect differences in the elements of our social arrangements. We do not exist as a federation by accident. Our present democratic polity is a product of decades of mutual co-existence, of conflicts and conciliations.

My favourite, and my HERO is Chief Obafemi Awolowo, may his soul rest in peace!
