$7 billion for defence?

$7 Billion on Defence?

Finance Minister, Paul Martin, just release his new federal budget. Apparently, $7 billion of it is going toward defence initiatives. In addition, he has added a new 'defence' tax to airline tickets ($24/round trip tix).

I don't know about you, but I'm just a little concerned considering he didn't give anything to health or education. I'm quite willing to bet that more Canadians have died of health related problems than Anthrax or even terrorist bombings (no disrespect to those who died on 9/11).

A woman I met the other day said something that really resonated with me--"They'll give billions of dollars for a 'defence initiative' but nothing for a 'peace initiative'." Indeed.

What are your thoughts?

just a little feedback.

I dont ever recall anything in government saying anything about being progressive.

Everything governments do is in answer to something else, or in anticipation of profit.

Example - government hikes security in answer to Sept. 11.

Example - Governmetn invests in Computer Engineering Departments for kickbacks later on.

Governments are simple. Make money. Win Elections. Dont piss off the people.

Now you see why Democracy is screwed. Democractic society is too closely interwoven with capitalism for it to be effective anymore, everything has to be considered financially. Emotion takes a back seat.

humanity is less important than the all-mighty dollar.

this will make you laugh:

"America is the only idealistic nation in the world." - Woodrow Wilson

Woodrow Wilson of all people!

US Profit from the attacks on Afghanistan?
Of Course!

1. OIL pipelines can now be built through afghanistan for OIL being drilled in the Caspian

2. dubya has a commercial out where he's encouraging people to travel to disney world, other theme parks, las vegas, etc...

3. they're talking about an economic stimulus bill? what about all the money the gov. gave (tax dollars) to airline companies and other corporations that were affected by 911? i haven't heard anything about the laid-off workers benefitting.

and here's an interesting article...
While you were watching the war...

I was thinking of another kind of progression!

As in - the good kind!

you were thinking of profit progression. Its the same thing when your an American congressman/woman.

you may not have been paying attention to all the other posts ive made in the past - i dont believe in the importance money has over us all. humanity is worth more than that. It doesnt seem like it - but it is.

Just clearing that up for you.
