In our communities today, there is increase in sexual violence which is a crime against humanity. There has been inadequate investigations into this vice. Culture seems to be holding us hostage from dealing with rising incidences on sexual violence.
What shold we do as young people to stem the vice?
How should we work with adults to reduces incidences of confrontation?
Do you have a legislation/policy in your country aimed at halting/prosecution of gender violence?
How well is this being implemented? [b]

Hi ,
In Nepal, we too have strong laws against sexual violence, implementation has been seen to some extent but the condition is same. The young girls especially are the victims of the sexual violence. Moreover, nowadays, media has focused in the sexual violence that is done to MSM, gay, transgender and lesihbian by police and their relatives.
The problem is in vicious cirlce, as the young children dont know whats happening to them. So the main concern should be the parents to take care of their children. Also, the perpetrator should be prosecuted in front of society by the means of laws.

I voted that they should be charged but I also think that rehabilitation is key. Too often it seems that criminals are sent to rot in jail when they could become a part of the solution. If these individuals became involved in the community helping to prevent these crimes from happening again through giving speeches, providing their opinion on what would have stopped them from doing it again, etc. This kind of action is the only way we will be able to end the cycle of violence that exists on every society. This is a global problem which needs to be addressed.

I work with an organization in South Africa called Rape Outcry. Our primary goal is that of raising awareness and also running self-defense classes and a support group for rape survivors. From my experience and research in the field, it has become apparent that EARLY INTERVENTION is essential: teachers and parents need to be educated so that they can recognize the signs and symptoms in young children BEFORE they become perpetrators! For some the act of sexually abusing someone else becomes an addiction which is hard to stop. For the average person, the very idea of hurting someone this painfully is unheard of - never mind repeatedly! And yet, for so many of these men and women who rape others it is a way of life: escape, means to gain power and control, even a hopeless effort of "self-medicating." I feel it is important for perpetrators of abuse to undergo rehabilitative therapy while incarcerated - they are not safe to the general public.
Forgiveness is always important.
More so for the survivor.
