[Poll] to those who think they are in poverty

I do not think there is such a thing as poverty and it is only what others think of it, that makes it what it is.Just like beauty, "poverty is in the eye of the beholder."
I was raised in Fiji, an island in the south pacific and in standards that would be called poverty to the western world. Yet those where the best days of my lives. Living in that circumstance I was oblivious to what others saw as poverty in our family for there was love, good times and lives to be lived.
I now live in the states in what would be called a higher lifestyle, but I can only dream of the hapiness i once had. I did't cheerish it then... and I hope where ever you are, you can cheerish your lives for what it is and live it regardless of the worlds pity.
There is no poverty in your heart.
Are you happy?

I have seen pictures of other people's unfortunate circumstances, and I think I'm rich. As for happiness, I am very happy to be live in my current circumstances, although I would be much happier to see poverty go away.

Hi wahack0station2002
Im sorry is the post i made was a bit vague as i see now. (reading it a few days after original post)
It is actually meant for people in poverty that consider themselves unfortunate. Of course there is poverty and they are in poverty. I was just trying to give them a different outlook at life that might help them be happy and not dwell on the "unfortunate" circumstance upon them.
I did not take into consideration at the time though that the group this message applies to do not have internet access and only the "fortunate" ones are reading my message.

Poverty is a serious issue

I dont think I understand what do you mean by the non-existence of poverty. Do you imply that there are no countries with resources or elements deficiency? I am living in one of the developing country in Africa and maybe one that is considered to be ahead in terms of development but I there is poverty. Yes it might not be as high as in other African countries like Zimbabwe, Ethiopia and others. But le me tell you there is poverty and we cannot ignore the fact that there are billions of people in the world who are spending weeks if not months with empty stomachs, there millions of people who are dying of HIV/AIDS, malaria, cholera yet with no medication, good diet, sufficient shelter, water and electricity. Those are the unfortunate circumstances we reffer to as poverty.
My brother consider yourself very lucky that at least you have enough resources for your daily living. That at least a high percentage of your needs and wants are met, but I assure you not every one in this world is as lucky as you are. And the solution is not by pretending as if it's not there but by committing ourselves selflessly to help. It's heart breaking to see infants in some parts of Africa as thin as a stick with nothing solid to consume let alone clean water to drink and shower. It's really petrifying.
As grateful as I am to be in a 'better' country, to have been at school, to at least have something to drink and eat. I am deeply touched by what poverty does to humanity and it's hard for me to ignore.
Jesus Christ said he found poverty on earth and he will leave it here.
Yes, may be it cannot be entirely eradicated but it can significantly reduced.
POVERTY EXISTS AND IT RATES VERY HIGH IN AFRICA.

To what extent do you consider rich? I am a middle class American who uses coupons and never buys items at full price. I look for quantity not quality when I grocery shop. Does this make me rich because I can shop? Or does it mean that I am poor because I do not buys meals-in-a-box?
My friend, You should widen your definition. I am happy though I canot afford everything I want. And because I can afford some, does not mean my needs are many.

I don't know whether you understood my arguement. I was not saying that everybody from the developed contries is rich and much as not everybody in developing coutries is poor. Not everybody is poor either. What I meant is that there are people in great poverty. Who do not have much, who cannot afford a little we can.

Can we all agree to one thing?
I was told by one of my lecturers, a quite intellectual man, who kept telling us to remember and think about the fact that less than 1% of the World knows the word Computer, knows what a Computer is, or has ever seen one.
In UK, where I live, he made us realise, that it is less than half, more closer to 10% of the homes in Britain have a home PC.
Besides PCs and stuff like that. The obvious and mostly taken for granted WRONG of this world, is that there is more food to go round for everyone. But why does it not go round for everyone? Cause food costs money, WHY? Cause capitalism rules the World (WTO, IMF, World Bank, UN, EU, etc), NOT Charity, not any religion, not any form of communism or community.
Charity, religion, maybe not Communism, but especially Community are basic things. You know people are dieing because of food. You should know WHY by now.
OH and for those that believe US to be the greatest Country in the World, for any reason whatsoever, esp in terms of Wealth and Power. IN AMERICA, you can see severe Poverty too! There are homeless people, there is Child Labour!
