Perceptions of Women in Islam

Salam alaikum all,
I have posted this on my blog (first entry) but thought (hope) it's o.k. to post here as well.
I am in the process of putting together some sources for a new book /academic research (untitled) that I am writing. I'm in the first stages...
At this point I am doing an experiment on perceptions of Islam etc. I would like to hear from YOU about your thoughts on women in Islam, hijab and honour killing. You DO NOT have to comment on all three, unless you wish to.
Shukran,
Salma

Ok here is what I think Islam gives to a woman.
I think Islam is the only religion or the only rules that gives women their right and position in the society. As you may know that before Islam what was the position of woman? They were never treat like a human being. They were burried alive. But after Islam came it never happened again. They are treated equally to many.
YOu may know that in Quran the name of male and female are equally used.
Islam gives woman the right of doing Hijab and its inorder that the woman must not be used like a thing they must be treated like a human being. Here I remember one very good story.
'' Once there was a big confrence between Muslim scholars and Christain Scholars. So they asked all the question they wanted to know. At the end one of the christain scholar asked the Muslim scholar that why must the muslim women have to cover? In response the Muslim scholar asked him that you keep the daimond in so many clothes? He said because it is preciouse and because we love it. So here the Muslim scholar said exactly that is why all the Muslim women are covered, because they are so specail and so preciouse that not every one can have them or use them, because Islam give them a special value not like an artificial jewel that every one can buy and use and after that leave them when they want. ''
I personally I am living in a place where you can hardly find few muslims. In our university there are only 4 Muslim girls who cover themselves and i feel very comforatable and special when i am in Hijab, and i agree this scholar of what he said.
As ppl are saying now adays that muslim are very voilant to their women it is not true. One must enough knowldge of differenciating between culture and religion that is they must not call a religion a culture or viceversa. Y never do a muslim say so to other non muslim coz they know the difference between culture and religion and they know the truth of a true religion.
That is all for now . I can write to you about my ideas more next day.

Salam Alaikum,
TIG is specifically for this project...so please post here. However, if you are interested in reading my (somewhat) daily entries, then do visit my blog. There is a range of conversations/topics there. It does not surround my research.
Shukran for your reply...
