[Poll] HIV/AIDS and economy of the world
July 26, 2003 - 04:16 AM

HIV/AIDS is mostly prevalent in the age group of 15-49 years. This age group is very much important from economic productivity point of view. In fact this is the most active age group for any country and the world as a whole. Currently, the population of the youth in the world is highest ever recorded in the history of the world. Which accounts for one third of the worlds’ population.
This age group is again the mostsexually active group. If we have a look of the routs of the transmission of HIV, we find that sexual transmission of HIV is most common. It is the cause of transmission in almost 90 per cent of the total infections. This simply construes that there is an urgent need to propagate for the safer sex practices and awareness campaigns on HIV/AIDS at work place.
My point is that what are the responsibilities on our shoulders and what role we are to play to save the economy of our world since at workplace at every five minute one man is dying of AIDS. The role of corporate becomes very important seeing the situation.Otherwise the day is not too far when the economy of the world will collapse.

HIV/AIDS - What is an ideal strategy to deal with spread of AIDS?
July 30, 2003 - 02:29 AM

Is there an ideal strategy to deal with spread of AIDS/HIV? Is there total awareness of the nature of the disease? Is global research conducting its enquiries in the right direction? Is there adequate sharing of all forms of knowledge needed to fight this disease? Are the sufferers of AIDS united in their stand and able to raise a collective voice to support any preventive campaign? What is the self-interest of the organisation devoted to fighting AIDS and what does it hope to achieve through its efforts? Is the strategy designed to gain incremental benefits over time? Is there an ongoing program of knowledge sharing that can bring in qualitative inputs of immediate use so that it can be incorporated in the design strategy?

These and several other questions must be posed and answered repeatedly until a suitable balance is achieved.

positive message is to convey
July 30, 2003 - 10:30 AM

Dr Jayanth G Paraki,
Some very good points you have raised. But, unfortunately nobody can make a global stategy to fight the pendemic in the globe. We know that the disease is associated with somany other concerns and issues like prostitution, Male sex with male, homo and hetro sexuality, child abuse and eunch community and some time with a specific sector of the society. Because of this, a uniform strategy can't be formulated. Againg the issue is associated with sex thats why one have to consider social norms and values.

One thing I must say that there is need to review the kind of awareness we are creating and what will be its future impacts. This is very much important for the time to come and the future generation may be they are learn to live with the virus positively. We must give a positive message in our campaign.
