[Poll] Are Gods or a God, necassary for happiness?
August 4, 2008 - 12:07 AM

For as long as I could remember I have never full heartedly believed in any particular God. Not Jesus. Not several Gods such as in Buddhism. I can say that I am happy though. Its hard to go through life not believing in anything though. I do believe in a higher spirit thats there for us in the afterlife, but I don't believe in a single person who is our spiritual guide. I have no face with my belief but just an energy.

I believe that its not necassary for us to have a God figure in order to function throughout life happily. If anything I believe that an overall energy is best. It has no segregation of any kind. No sex segregation or race. You can believe in anything. There is not a man/women figure hovering over you saying this is a sin on everything you do. The energy guides you through your heart and when you get that gut instinct if something is right or wrong...thats the energy helping you out. I feel very succesful and happy knowing and believing this.

I think this could apply to a lot of people out there. I don't know how many people I know that don't attend church and don't know what to believe in. My question is...even if you do believe in God(s), doesn't it seem like a respectable alternative from all the religions? Something that a soul can confide in without having pressures of rules and sins... All you do is follow your heart and gut instincts and how could happiness fail you?

I agree there is no God & the world is guided by Energy. I personally believe that the Positive & Negative Energy in the world is generated by People. Years ago I read a statistic stating people only use 10% of their brains. I’ve concluded since reading that statistic that it’s bogus. Science can only prove the 10% that scientists claim we use. Science can’t prove we’re not using the other 90%. I believe the Positive & Negative Energy we’re talking about comes from that 90%.

Interesting topic. I was an implicit Atheist, as I'm sure most of us are until we reach an age of true reasoning ability. My parents, although both raised in religions are non-religious, and consequently I grew up without a real concept of God or religion; if the topic came up I by default responded that I "didn't believe in God" because that's what Mom and Dad believed.

Eventually of course I became curious about religion for its own sake. I explored non-European religions, specifically Buddhism and Hinduism, but eventually became dissatisfied with them.

I now identify myself as an explicit Atheist. I reject the idea of a God or gods as a true entity.

To answer your question, however, I believe you can find happiness without a God; I have. I find happiness in spending time with my family, enjoying time with the people I care about, being in nature and striving to understand its complexities, doing what I love, etc. I "believe" in myself, in my abilities, and that I can use them to make positive changes---as well all of us here do, as well!

But on another note, Buddhism is not a polytheistic religion. You may have confused it with Hinduism, which has thousands of Gods and Godesses. Buddhism is more of a "way of life" and Buddha is more of a guru than a God.

SlicNic5150, while I stand by the universe being a lucky roll of the dice, and life on our planet an even choicier (is that a word, even? I don't think so...) hand of cards, I do agree with you on the brain thing. In fact, the 10% myth is just that: a myth.

What the scientists stated that the parts of our brain that are really "active" are the neurons that create electrical charges, and which comprise 10% of our brain matter. The rest is used for memory storage, sensory perception "materials". I'm sure you could find out more by searching around on Google for a few minutes.

I would get some links, but it's late, and my brain hurts. stick out tongue

i still remember when i was child..my dad said to me something.
he opened my mind by simple question

"who are u girl"
"who make u alive?"

and...i simply answered it by one name as i know as my God.

when I grow up...I remembered this things again
and...when i read it...hehehe I know...all people live in this world hve rights to choose their GOD
for me, only ONE GOD according to my heart
for me, its enough to believe that My GOD save me until now

and I hope...all people can keep their truth until died
not influence each others
or being influenced by others

believe with our CREATOR is a freedom
and..Love ur GOD forever...
or when you thing u are in the wrong way of ur GOD---FIND
until u really believe with one....and never lose it again.

yah...we just never know how long time we stil wake up like this

I went to many countries for learning this things also and I met many friends in Atheist condition.
