United Nations Needs Reform

One of the founding purpose of the United Nations is to prevent wars from happening, but its role is now in serious danger, especially after the Iraq War. Its role is simply too much for an organization with so little powers.
After the First World War, US President Woodrow Wilson drew up plans for a world forum. The forum, called the League Of Nations, is the predescessor to the United Nation. Its powers was wide and because of this, the United States rejected the plan and did not join. Without the US, the League never stood a chance.
After the Second World War, the US, along with the UK and the Soviets, drew up a plan for the United Nations we know today. Learning from the past, they gave the UN little powers. (For example, decisions non-binding and not enforcable.)
Today, the UN, while facing a bigger and more violent world, is cracking from within. Its inability to prevent many wars led many to question its helpfullness and the need for it to exist. The UN is simply ill-equipped to face a changing world. It became, essentially, a relic. It failed to evolve as the world change. It needs to evolve, and evolve rapidly, before it is going to be written down in the annals of world history as a useless organization. Its works in charity will never be forgotten, let it also be remembered as a place that ends many of the world's tragedies.

I understand that some nations, acting on its own interest, will never give up much power in favor of the UN. However, what we are talking here is not about creating a powerful institution. We are simply talking about giving a bit more power for the UN to enforce its decision and also, procedure reforms that can quicken things.
For example, when the Security Council is debating on a resolution, the parties involved who are in the UN should not be present, permanent members or not, as they present a conflict of interest. This will speed things up at the UN and also lower the influence of self-interest in this organization.
It is in the interest of the world that this forum is present for people to debate and negotiate in, let this be the place that started world peace.

The United Nations has a good motive, but their plans cannot follow through with their lack of power. More nations need to be more willing to go out on a limb, not for the benefit of their country, but for the world. I am not implying that every person should drop everything and help the people in desperate conditions, but be more compassionate. In the long run, the smallest effort could save a life or alter a decision. You never know what you can achieve unless you TRY. That is what the United Nations stand for, trying to resolve world issues that SEEM hopeless. They can work, they just need more support and a new approach to new problems.

I totally agree with opinionram14.
i said that before actually.
united nations is turning into a humanitarion organisation while it was supposed to be a political one.
the main reason for the fall of UN is that the main members, i.e. the founders of UN, US and UK dont respect it at all.
out of time rite now. Could add more.

True -- America makes up a lot of the UN because of its size, and it seems like all America wants to do is to work in its own interests, not in the interests of the world...
