UN chief welcomes pact, hails Mbeki
AFP.
UNITED NATIONS. UNITED Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon yesterday hailed the joint pledge by Zimbabwean President Mugabe and opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai to launch fully-fledged talks to end their election dispute.
"The Secretary General welcomes the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the parties in Zimbabwe, which provides a framework for formal talks to end the political crisis in the country," Ban’s Press office said in a statement.
The UN chief also praised South African President Thabo Mbeki and his mediation team for their efforts "in facilitating the signing of this agreement".
Ban renewed the UN’s commitment to support the mediation efforts and urged all sides "to engage, in good faith, in serious talks that would lead to a lasting solution to the political crisis and address the urgent economic and humanitarian needs of the Zimbabwean people". — AFP

Lol. That expression "Memorandum of Understanding" brings back some not so fond memories of Kenyan politics.
Anyway, let's hope that dialogue achieves something positive in Zimbabwe.

personally i do think this is a bit ironical, compering to how Mr.mugabe has been mistreating the opposition,Did Mugabe appologies for his acts,i thought this sould be the frist step before any agreement. How will they work together and yet their past is still close to their hearts,I don't believe agreement between the two can bring anytthing good for Zimbabwe..We continue praying for God's hands upon your nation. It seems this is turning out to be the order of the day. Anyway mediation taiks is better than a tyrant to sit on the throne to voice out what he wants.
It is my hope that this may not turn out to be a fiasco but follow the right coarse.
But I still have my doubts that the 84 year old racism pimp will take it in good faith.

When Mugabe came into power in 1980 he extended the a reconcilatory hand to those who were once his foes. Thats why some of the people who were in Smith's cabinet were also added to Mugabe's cabinet.General Walls was made the head of the army. All in the name of reconciliation and moving forward.
The opposition has never been treated worse than Mugabe by Smith so IF you say they were mistreated its all about forgiveness and moving forward. As Zimbabweans we need to come together for the country's sake.
Let us also not forget that the violence etc were coming from both sides.Zanu PF and MDC are both guilty of the violence that gripped the country.
We need to speak reconcilatory words as the process is continuing.

Now that an agreement has been reached and signed lets celebrate the triumph of dialogue.
It has also proved that Africans can solve their own problems if left alone.
Applause to Cde Mbeki and his "quiet diplomacy" it has proved many detractors wrong.
Aluta Continua Comrades now its time to "turn our swords in plows" and work for the development of Zimbabwe.
Sanctions must lifted!!!
Aluta Continua Comrades....

I'm very happy that the dialogue finally ended with success =D
Of course I'd have liked it more if Mugabe was removed from power entirely. Somehow I doubt that was ever even a possibility, considering African nations refused to denounce him. But still, having Mbeki in power and the opposition gaining power is an amazing step forward for Zimbabwe =D

Dialogue will always prevail over war.
People may fight but at the end of the day they will sit down and talk.
So hopefully the Zimbawean agreement owill be implemented without outside interefences which tend to have a negative impact on the ongoing process
